Thank you to my shoppers who tip when they make a purchase with me! It truly makes a huge difference in what we do! This year we've been able to get some new UVB bulbs, worms (a treat) for the box turtles, treats for the other critters, nutritionally balanced food, supplies for minor (but needed) enclosure maintenance.

This month we purchased extra turtle food (it's a comfort to have surplus) Some crickets, which are a good calcium delivery method (we dust them with Calcium & vitamin D3) and some new genetics to add in our feeder bug colony. To keep the feeders I breed (to reduce our cost) healthy, they need new genetics added in once in a while. So while most of those bugs won't be food, they'll make more critter food in the long run.

To reiterate, we truly appreciate all the extra help you are so generously thoughtful to give! You make a huge difference, by just shopping with me, but even moreso when you go the extra mile! 🥰🥰🥰🫶🫶🫶🐢

On today's episode of CTL Turtle Taxi... I got musked and peed on through the towel, and he pooped in my turtle towel too. 😆 It's fine, I really don't care. I wouldn't even use a towel if it wasn't for how slippery they can become when they musk. I really don't want to accidentally drop a snapping turtle from the jolting strike force, which is more likely (for me at least) when they're slippery from musking. When they musk, it's kind of like trying to keep hold of them covered in a slippery dish soap.

As always, if you're helping our shelled friends cross the road, YOUR SAFTEY is the number 1 priority.
Always move them in the direction they were headed when you first saw them.

NEVER pick up a turtle up by the tail!!
Please do not take wild turtles home, or move them away from their habitat. With numbers declining, we always want to keep them in the breeding population!

Be mindful of other motorists, and keep all of your (and other's) body parts away from the beak and claws!

Snapping turtles have a very impressive bite range, and should only be lifted by the back of the shell. If you need to, you can slip one hand underneath while still grasping one side of the rear, though you MIGHT get scratched by the rear claws.

Anyways, I'm very happy to be able to help these amazing and prehistoric looking creatures 🥰😍🫶🐢

The Common Snapping Turtle (Chelydra serpentina) is my absolute favorite Michigan native species!

Like mother like daughter! So proud of her for successfully & safely helping this gentleman cross the road! She's seen me do it a million times, and executed her first snapping turtle save flawlessly, all by herself! She was so excited too 🥰🥰🥰
I also absolutely love that I'm the first person she called to tell! She's a wonderful human, and she gets all the credit for it, but I definitely did something right 🥰😍💚🐢

The beads are at a slightly different configuration, and some of the beads are also slightly different. The red beads, for example, have a metallic shiny kind of inner coating with a more transparent body. They are beautiful! (The last set had a really pretty opaque red)
