THOUGHTS FROM A MILL VILLAGE GIRL... I have a Judas Tree in my front yard that my Daddy transplanted from his and Mother's yard at Judson Mill many, many years ago. I love this tree. Somehow, a little baby Judas Tree has come up, but in the most terrible place it could....right next to my sidewalk leading to our front door. Marla asked me if I wanted her to cut it down. I pondered this for awhile, and finally told her yes. So she did. Well, low and behold, I was just sitting in my chair and looked down at the little tree.....to my surprise there were tiny, little heart shaped leaves coming out of those little limbs. They were fighting to live, they were thriving, and they were determined that no matter what you do to me, I am going to grow and become what I am suppose to be...something beautiful. It came to me that this is a good lesson for us. No matter how many times we are cut down, stepped on, told we won't make it, etc. we should remember this little Judas Tree that just won't give up. May you be encouraged today that you can make it no matter what.

LABOR DAY is almost over...when I think of this holiday, I always think of the hard working, honest, God-fearing and patriotic people that worked in the cotton mills. This is why I created this FB page..."Mill Village Girls, Best in the World" to give them the honor they deserve. A few years back, my brother Tony Christopher, wrote a book, "Recollections & Results "of being raised on" A Southern Mill Village." In this book he shared many stories about the mill village people, and also Parker High and the Golden Tornadoes were given honor also. He asked me to write something that he could put on the back cover of his book. I was honored to do this. These are my feelings... "The author, with his quick wit and "folksy" style of storytelling, captures the very essence of "livin' on the mill hill." It takes the reader "back in time" to a life filled with simple joys, happy carefree days; where everybody knew each other and looked out for each other. Whether it was a walk to the "company store", or "giggin'" for frogs in the "mill pond"...it was a place in time that is to be thought of with fond and loving memories...a time that is "no more", gone forever, but never forgotten - that "of being raised on" a Southern Mill Village. Thank you, Tony, for this inspiring and wonderful book. Wish you were still here...why we might even go down to the mill pond and do a little giggin' for frogs.

Thinking of my sweet Mother on this Mother's Day weekend. Sure wish she was here so I could take her a bouquet of flowers and a nice gift. She was so special to me. We were very close and she was my "Best Friend." I miss those Saturdays way back when we used to ride the trolly and go to town. We would always go to the Main Street Pharmacy and get a minced barbecue sandwich and a Coke. Oh, those were fun days. Well, if the Main Street Pharmacy was still here and you were here too, we would most certainly take our Saturday trip to town. Love you and miss you dearly....LaVoylyn
