Most people get comfortable and call it contentment.
That's not peace. That's decay.
This job doesn't reward the version of you from five years ago. It punishes it. The fire doesn't care how good you used to be. Neither does the wreck, the code, or the call that comes in at three in the morning.
If you've stopped chasing better, you've already started losing it, whether you notice or not.
Nobody's coming to save you from mediocrity. That's on you. Do the work for the guy next to you. Do it for your family. Do it for the stranger who'll never know your name but will remember that you showed up ready.
Comfortable is a choice. So is staying sharp. You don't get both.
