Friday Fun Fact! 🦈👁️

The cornea is one of the most important parts of your eye. It's the clear, protective front layer that helps focus light so you can see clearly.

Interestingly, shark corneas are structurally so similar to ours that researchers have studied them as a potential resource for corneal transplants and eye surgery. 👀

Ever noticed a raised, fleshy growth on the white of the eye? That could be a pterygium - a benign (noncancerous) growth that can extend onto the cornea and, over time, affect vision if left unchecked.

Common causes include:
☀️ Prolonged UV exposure
💨 Wind and dust
🏜️ Dry environments

Mild cases may just need monitoring, but if it starts affecting your vision or comfort, treatment options are available. If you've noticed changes in your eyes, don't wait - schedule an exam with your eye doctor.

Contacts give you the freedom to hit the trails, hang by the lake, or head out for a walk without giving your glasses a second thought. But that freedom comes with responsibility. Healthy habits are what keep your eyes comfortable, clear, and infection-free for years to come.

This week, we're reminding our community of a few simple but essential rules:

✅ Wash and dry your hands thoroughly before touching your lenses
✅ Never sleep in daily-wear contacts
✅ Replace lenses and lens cases on schedule - even if they "still feel fine"
✅ Keep water away from your contacts (no swimming, showering, or rinsing with tap water)
✅ Don't skip your annual eye exam, even if your vision feels unchanged

It's easy to treat contacts as routine, but your eyes deserve the same care and attention you'd give any part of your health.

If it's been a while since your last check-up, there's no better time than Contact Lens Health Week to schedule one. Our team is here to help you see - and feel - your best.

Back-to-school season means new backpacks, new schedules 🎒 - and it's also a great time to think about your child's eyes.

Did you know contact lenses aren't just for adults? Myopia (nearsightedness) is on the rise in kids, and it's about more than blurrier distance vision. Left unmanaged, it can increase the risk of serious eye conditions later in life.

That's where MiSight® comes in - the first FDA-approved contact lens clinically proven to slow the progression of myopia in children. 💚

Myopia management is one of the most important conversations in pediatric eye care right now - and it starts with a simple question at your child's next visit.

📅 Ask us if MiSight could be right for your child at their next exam.

Contact Lens Replacement: A Key to Healthy, Happy Eyes👁️✨

Replacing your contact lenses on schedule is an important part of maintaining healthy eyes and comfortable vision. Keep these tips in mind:

📅 Stick to Your Replacement Schedule
Whether you wear daily, bi-weekly, or monthly lenses, always replace them as directed by your eye care provider.

⏰ Set Reminders
Life gets busy. Use your phone or calendar to remind you when it's time to open a new pair.

👀 Pay Attention to Your Eyes
Redness, irritation, discomfort, or blurry vision may be signs that your lenses need to be replaced-or that it's time to contact your eye doctor.

😴 Never Sleep in Lenses Unless Approved
Unless specifically prescribed, avoid sleeping in your contact lenses to reduce your risk of eye infections.

Healthy contact lens habits help protect your vision and keep your eyes feeling their best!
