Please make note of a road closure in the area of South Potomac Street and Howard Street both Thursday and Friday. The closures are supposed to begin at 9am and reopen by 3pm both days. If you are traveling to the school at any time during the school day, please use an alternate route.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY: S. Potomac Street (Aug. 27 & 28)

Work crews from the City’s Department of Public Works will be repairing a pavement depression in South Potomac Street; this work will require a temporary street closure.

Therefore, beginning at 9:00 AM on Thursday, August 27th, South Potomac Street will be closed to through-traffic near the railroad crossing at Howard Street. A detour route will be posted to direct northbound and southbound traffic around the closure. Motorists approaching the closure should expect to encounter cones, barricades, detour signs, and other traffic control devices. It is anticipated that the work will be completed, and the street reopened to traffic, by 3:00 PM on Thursday. This same closure will be repeated on Friday, August 28th.

Emergency vehicles will not be able to pass through this section of South Potomac Street while the closure is in effect.

Please contact the City’s Department of Public Works at 301-739-8577, extension 179 if there are any questions regarding this advisory.

It’s Back to School time! Meet our Hagerstown Police Department School Resource Officers (SROs) 👮‍♂️👮‍♀️📚

Our SROs do far more than protect our school halls—they spend every day building trust, mentoring, and being a supportive presence for our community's youth.

We asked our team what they love most about being an SRO, and here is what they had to say:

🤝 Daily Connections: "My favorite part of being an SRO is the interaction I get to have on a daily basis with the kids. I like to think that I’m making a difference in their lives while also showing them that I’m just a normal person who loves what they do."

🤲 Building Trust: "My favorite part is building relationships with the students and being someone they can trust and come to when they need help. It’s rewarding to have a positive impact on them beyond just the law enforcement side of the job."

Whether it's high-fives in the hallway, working through tough moments, or catching up in the cafeteria over lunch, our officers are dedicated to being there for our students every step of the way.

Take a look at the graphic below to see which officers are serving your student's school this school year! 🎓✨

Tuesday begins the 2026-2027 school year! Here are a few things to prepare for the first day.

• Doors open for students at 8:15am. Students are released to their homeroom at 8:25am and must be in class by 8:35am.

• All students are welcome to a free breakfast every morning. Breakfast lines are staged in Upper A, two in Main Street and one line in the cafeteria.

• Students who are being dropped off in the morning should only be dropped off on the Maryland Avenue side of the building. The front of the building off South Potomac Street is for bus traffic only. The same areas apply in the afternoon. Dismissal is at 3:30pm. Bus routes can be found on the WCPS website.

• If you aren’t sure where to go, ask a staff member! There are plenty of staff around the building who are happy to help students find their class!

• Don’t forget to review the WCPS cell phone/technology and dress code policies. https://www.wcpsmd.com/portals/families/back-to-school

• The senior class is hosting the annual Senior Sunrise event tomorrow morning to kickoff their final year of high school. The seniors and graduating juniors will get together in the stadium at 6am to enjoy some Krumpe’s Do-nuts, games and other activities before school.
