From Books to Threads: How Passion Paid for My Tuition
By Mohamed Daramy | Founder, Skeemo Clothing
Most people know me as a Quality Assurance Manager, a nonprofit leader, or even a community organizer. But what many don’t know is that my real journey started behind a sewing machine, not a lab bench.
In college, I studied biology. I was supposed to follow the traditional path. But late at night, after lectures and labs, I was sketching designs and stitching samples. Not just for fun — this passion helped pay for my tuition, bought my books, and kept me going.
It was during those long nights that Skeemo Clothing Company was born. What started as a creative outlet became a business, and what once felt like a side hustle became a calling.
🎨 Design has been with me for over 15 years now.
🧵 I didn’t abandon my passion after getting my degree — I nurtured it.
💡 And through every phase of life, it reminded me who I am.
So here’s my message to you:
Don’t bury your passion just because it doesn’t match your job title.
Don’t silence your creativity just because it’s not trending.
Keep building — even when no one is watching.
Because sometimes, the thing you loved in the shadows becomes the light that guides your future.
