In surfing, daily alcohol consumption doesn’t help you progress—it holds you back. Reaction time slows, balance and coordination decline, focus fades, recovery takes longer, and frustration tolerance drops. Pop-ups get slower, wave selection becomes rushed, breath control weakens, and sessions feel harder than they should. Alcohol doesn’t make anyone a better surfer; daily drinking wastes training time and stops real progress.

This isn’t just about sport. Even one, two, or three drinks a day dysregulate the nervous system. Regular alcohol use elevates cortisol, weakens the brain’s impulse-control center, and increases emotional and physical reactivity—on land and in the water. When the nervous system stays stressed, performance, health, and emotional regulation all suffer. Progress—in surfing and in life—requires recovery, regulation, and respect for the whole body.
