One person's passion can make a difference.
An Iron Range resident spent years restoring old, overgrown trails near Hoyt Lakes, creating nearly 10 miles of new mountain biking opportunities for the community and visitors alike.
What makes this story especially interesting is that these weren't brand-new trails. They were existing recreation corridors that had fallen into disuse over time. Rather than letting them disappear completely, a new vision was developed to bring them back to life and create a new opportunity for outdoor recreation.
It's a reminder that outdoor recreation opportunities don't always last forever. Trails, parks, campgrounds, and recreation areas often depend on people using them, supporting them, and advocating for them.
Whether you ride, hike, wheel, paddle, pedal, fish, hunt, camp, or simply enjoy spending time outdoors, getting outside helps ensure these places remain valued for future generations.
👏 Thank you to the volunteers, trail builders, advocates, and community leaders who help keep outdoor recreation alive and growing.
