✨7 THINGS I DID TO PREPARE FOR A NATURAL BIRTH (from a first-time mom who made it through 48 hours) ✨
Day 7 of 7: TALK IT OUT 🤍
Last one, and it’s the one that carried me.
During pregnancy, TALK ABOUT YOUR FEARS. Not to a search bar at midnight. To a person.
Talk to your spouse. Talk to your midwife or OB. Talk to your doula. Talk to the women you trust.
If you’re scared of pushing, say it. If you’re afraid you won’t be able to handle the pain, say it. If you’re afraid something will go wrong, say that too.
Let those fears OUT.
Let yourself be affirmed and validated. Ask questions. Let people speak truth to you when fear is lying to you.
When I was going into my second day of labor, the fear was getting so loud that I wanted to give up. The contractions were so intense, and I felt like I couldn’t catch a break. I hit a wall.
My husband reminded me that I was strong and created for this. He would sit with me, turn on my worship music, and together we would listen for Holy Spirit as He reminded me that I was more than able to do this.
And you know what?
When I surrendered my fear to Him, He cloaked me in His comfort.
My son came that night. 🤍
Take the truths people speak over you and remind yourself of them daily. Speak them over yourself. Speak them over your baby. Pray over your labor.
One of my absolute FAVORITE tools for this was Childbirth in the Glory by Janet Angela Mills, a collection of birth declarations and prayers you can listen to and speak over your body, your birth, and your baby.
And now the part I most need you to hear.
You can do EVERYTHING “right.”
You can educate yourself, prepare your body, train your mind, hire an amazing birth team, pray, stretch, breathe, do all the exercises, and birth can still surprise you.
Having an epidural, an induction, a hospital transfer, an assisted birth, or a C-section does NOT mean you failed.
Sometimes surrender is part of the process too.
Preparing for natural childbirth is not about proving how tough you are. It’s about walking into labor informed, confident, supported, prepared, and at peace.
Prepare well.
Trust God.
Trust your body.
Trust your baby.
Trust your birth team.
Take it one contraction at a time, and remember: you are more than able. 🤍
If this series helped you, share it with a mama who’s expecting.
