This is one of the hardest posts I’ve ever had to write.
With the unexpected loss of my dear friend—and the heart behind September Sky—I’ve made the decision to close up Second Wave. Walking into the shop without her there, without her energy, her ideas, her gentle nudges… it just doesn’t feel like the same journey anymore. All Second Wave pieces have been removed from September Sky as they prepare to reopen for limited hours to sell Jennifer’s remaining inventory.
The past year—testing out pop-ups, and then being invited to bring my racks into her space—was one of the most joyful creative experiences I’ve had in a long time. Jen believed in Second Wave even on the days I didn’t know what direction I was heading. Her encouragement, her generosity, and the way she made space for me was rare. We were creating something truly special together, and losing her has taken the wind right out of me.
Most of the Second Wave inventory was donated to Wonderland Thrift in Stratham, and the rest is now on consignment at Dogwood Dell Consignment in Exeter. Cammie has built such a warm, welcoming shop—one that reminds me so much of my original store, Hello Lovely. Her support during all of this has meant the world, so please go show her some love and shop her racks.
I’ll also be shutting down the Second Wave social media accounts as of December 1st. If you’d like to stay connected, feel free to follow my personal account—I’d love to keep sharing the small-business love from there.
I’m absolutely gutted by this loss. Jennifer was one of those once-in-a-lifetime people, and I’m endlessly grateful that our paths crossed when they did. I’ll keep thrifting, shopping secondhand, and supporting local small businesses—because that’s how she and I met, and it feels like a small way to carry her with me.
Thank you for being part of this chapter with me.
With gratitude,
Jen 💗
