Yesterday I shared the economical and more versatile way to make a saree ready-to-wear for those not accustomed with the pleating and drapping. Today, I'm making the standard customized ready-to-wear saree. The left part will be trimmed to the height of the lady wearing it. But because it will be trimmed there will be very little wiggle room left for her to wear it with higher heels or even bear foot, (at a temple)
Also, since the waist belt will be made her current circumference, and I will give a couple inches allowance, there will be limited room for major changes.
But for now, it will fit her perfectly.

Ready-to-wear sarees have become popular because of their convenience, especially for people who don't them regularly. However, each person's dimensions are different. Therefore purchasing one-size-fits-all online doesn't work for everyone. Additionally there's little to no flexibility if one wants to wear it with and without high heals, or if over time ones weight or other parameters changes. Finally, customized sewing a ready-to-wear saree can be outside some people's budget.
The one reason most people prefer the ready-to-wear saree is because the front pleats and pleated aanchal is overwhelming for them.
A simple solution to all these issues is to get only the front pleats and aanchal pleats sewed. This way the most overwhelming part is taken care of, there's flexibility with height of heels and changes in weight etc, and it's a fraction of the cost.

Sometimes surgical skills help me problem solve sewing challenges. Sewing through this heavy, thick Kevlar jacket with a straight needle was slow tedious and I wasn't satisfied with the "bite". So I made a straight needle into a curved needle (albeit far from a smooth curve) whipped out my artery forceps and now getting far better bites and moving along better. You never know when and where you'll get to apply your skills, sometimes in a seemingly totally unrelated field.

In one day I go from delicate tiny stitches on a wedding dress to reinforcing a Kevlar jacket with a cuff for a dog trainer working with police dogs. Love the diversity and challenges in what I get to do.
