Update Sunday December 7, 2025

First let me thank all of you who sent me birthday wishes, still getting some belated wishes. They were all greatly appreciated

I had CT scan yesterday and everything looks good. Nothing has spread and the pancreatic tumor has shrunk by 2 mm. I haven’t been able to take the chemo three weeks in arrow like I’m supposed to. After the second treatment either my platelets or red blood cells are too low. I have had to get a few blood and platelet transfusions.

Overall everyday is an adventure as each day I can have a different reaction to the medicine and chemo. Bottom line, I’m doing well and really, I’m better now than I was first diagnosed.

Between the treatments, reactions and Doctor’s appointments it’s been difficult keeping the shop open on any type of normal schedule. If you are coming into the shop I recommend calling or e-mailing first to make sure I'm available. Feel free to reach out if you have any issues or concerns via phone or e-mail. I'll get back to you ASAP. Again, I'll keep you all updated as needed.

Wishing everyone a Happy Hanukah, Merry Christmas and a Happy & Healthy New Year!!!

Update September 18, 2025

Sorry for not updating sooner but it's been a busy couple of months between Dr. appointments, treatments and attempting to keep work as normal as possible.
I had the CT scan in August, which basically showed that the cancer has not grown or spread in either the liver or pancreas.
I'm on a clinical trial at Fox Chase Cancer Center, which consists of three chemo drugs. Two of the drugs are what I would be getting if I were not on the trail. The other drug is either a placebo or the actual clinical drug. It is the consensus of everyone that I am on the clinical drug due to the way my body has been reacting to the treatment.
The planned schedule is to have a treatment three Wednesdays in a row and the next Wednesday off. Unfortunately, the way my body has been reacting to the chemo regimen we have had to adjust the schedule to every other Wednesday.
The side effects have been invasive on my red blood count, platelets and other blood tests. I had to have one platelet and three blood transfusions. I have had fatigue, gastro issues and neuropathy in my feet. Today I had a flare up of the stricture issues I had back in January so I have a Foley catheter until next Tuesday. Needless to say, this has wreaked havoc with keeping the store open on any type of normal schedule.
Again, if you are coming into the shop I recommend calling or e-mailing first to make sure I'm available. Feel free to reach out if you have any issues or concerns via phone or e-mail. I'll get back to you ASAP. Again, I'll keep you all updated as needed.

July 10, 2025
It's been one year since I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. While I wasn't able to have the planned surgery I'm feeling well! I have gotten through the initial round of the new clinical trial chemo and started round two yesterday. Luckily, I have had only minor side effects from the chemo and I'm optimistic about the treatment. I'll have a follow up CT scan in mid-August to see where we stand and how we will proceed going forward. I'm attempting to keep things as normal as possible and work around the Dr. appointments, rehab schedule and physical feedback from my body. Again, if you are coming into the shop I recommend calling or e-mailing first to make sure I'm available. Feel free to reach out if you have any issues or concerns via phone or e-mail. I'll get back to you asap. Again, I'll keep you all updated as needed.

Update May 14, 2025

Yesterday did not go as originally planned. The cancer did spread to my liver, so the lesions that showed up back in July in the liver were actually cancerous. Yesterday, they did a small incision and waited for the biopsy of the liver to confirm before they would go forward with the Whipple surgery. At that point it was clear that the Whipple surgery could not proceed. I will be in the hospital until at least tomorrow. Then they will discuss a plan for a course of action going forward. Both the oncological surgeon and oncologist seem optimistic but surgery is not an option going forward. I'm feeling fine and I’ll keep you updated.

Updated 3/27/3025

I met with the Temple Fox Chase cancer surgeon on Monday March 24 and we have a tentative date for surgery of May 13, 2025. I have a telehealth appointment with the vascular surgeon on April 8. He will be on standby in the OR in case there is a need to do surgery on the SMV. I have pre op follow up on April 16 with blood draw and CT scan for updated images to see the results of the chemo, light chemo and radiation. I also have a follow up that day with Penn Radiational Oncology. Hopefully we will see even more reduction of the tumor encasement of the SMV. Today I had the bile duct stent removed and replaced. This will eventually come out with the gall blader when I have the surgery. I will keep you posted as we get closer to the day of the surgery.

Update 1/31/2025. On January 17 I had a procedure to clear out the stricture from the prostate cancer radiation. I had the foley catheter in till Wednesday January 22 with the intention of starting light chemo and radiation on January 23. The chemo pills did not arrive till Friday so everything was pushed back until Monday Jan 27. in the past week I developed a tickle in my throat that led to coughing spasms. When I tried to hold my breath, it led to more coughing spasms. Penn Med sent me home with a few remedies so that we could try again on Tuesday with no success. Penn referred me to the ER and after doing some blood work and scans I was admitted to Doylestown Hospital with chronic heart failure. They removed about 750 ML of fluid from my left lung and we are waiting for the pathology to hopefully come back clean. If it does, we will look at what options we are doing going forward since the MRI show significant reduction in the size of the pancreatic tumor. Right now, I am home from the hospital and just hoping on clean pathology on the lung fluid so we can tackle the next hurdle on this road to recovery.

Update 1/15/2025
It's been a busy week. January 7 saw my GP and everything was good. Good BS and Blood sugar. January 8 had the CT simulation scan in prep for the radiation. On January 13, I saw the GI doctor and it was decided that they would replace the stent in the bile duct at the end of February. Later on Monday I saw the Urologist and was scheduled for an outpatient procedure on Friday, so I'll have a catheter for at least 5 days. Tuesday, I saw the oncologist and went over the light chemo I'll be doing during the radiation treatments. Looks like 3 pills, twice a day for each day we do the radiation, so at least for 25 days. Today I had an Echo Cardiogram and MRI in prep for radiation and surgery. Hopefully I'll get the radiation schedule next week and we can get this show on the road. Obviously, I will be trying to keep my store hours as best I an. Please feel free to e-mail me or leave a voice message if you need anything. I will get back to you

Update as of Jan 6, 2025.
Last week I saw my Nephrologist and received a good report and will not have to return till next January. Today I saw the Cardiologist and received another good report. Reduced some medications. Good EKG. Will get an echo so I'll be cleared for surgery. Saw radiation oncologist and the plan is to get CT scan and MRI in the next few days. Will be 25 radiation and 5 chemo light treatments. I am waiting for my visit with the GI doctor on Monday to set the schedule. Again, everything is looking good just have to shrink the tumor more around the SMV and we should be good to go to surgery. Still on schedule to reevaluate in mid-March.
