Did you know... that the first public school in America was the Boston Latin School which opened in 1635?
Did you know... that, in 1647, the Massachusetts Bay Colony passed a law that required towns with at least 50 families to hire a reading and writing teacher and towns with at least 100 families to open a grammar school?
Did you know... that the first public high school in this country (1821) was not established until almost 200 years after the opening of the first grammar school?
Did you know... that, by 1870, every state had some form of tax-funded public schooling?
