I went through my mom’s stash of cross-stitch patterns from the ’80s, and I was NOT prepared for what I found. 😂 From workout towels and matching sweatsuits to vintage NFL logos and the ultimate California Raisins pattern, this was a nostalgic trip down memory lane! Which one would you actually make today?

I have officially reached the “making my life easier at the pool” stage of summer 😂☀️

Because if you have kids, you already know… towels are apparently impossible.
They fall off.�They drag on the ground.�They get soaked.�Someone trips.�Someone cries.�Everyone is suddenly having a LOT of feelings. 😂

So I turned a regular beach towel + bath towel into this adorable hooded pool poncho 🍓✂️

It stays on, keeps them cozy after swimming, and you can customize it for any size kid (or apparently yourself… because yes, I tried it on 😂).

This is a super easy beginner-friendly sewing project, and you don’t need anything fancy to make it. Grab some old towels and try it!
Who else needs one of these for pool season?! 🙋‍♀️

Meet my mom, Tricia… but I call her Trixie (and she LOVES it 😂❤️)

When I was teaching at Missouri Star last week, one of my students shared this little hand sewing trick with me and I could not believe I had never done it before.

So naturally… I had to show my mom. 😂

Between the two of us, we have a LOT of years of sewing experience, and somehow this little trick completely blew our minds.

It’s such a simple way to start your hand sewing without a bulky knot — perfect for sewing on buttons, cross stitch, and all those little hand sewing moments.

One of my favorite things about sewing is that you are NEVER done learning. Sometimes you’re the teacher… and sometimes your students teach you. ❤️

So now we need to know…

I blame my grandma for this one. 😂📚✂️

Every summer at the beach, my Grammy always had a fabric cover on whatever book she was reading (which I’m fairly certain was mostly to hide her Danielle Steel novels from us 🤣).

She loved those book covers, and every year everyone fought over who got to pick out her new one.

Fast forward all these years later… I picked up an actual book again instead of my usual audiobook, and immediately thought:
“Wait. My book needs a cute little outfit.” 😂

Because obviously as sewists, if something exists… we can probably cover it in fabric. ❤️

So I made a quilted fabric book cover with a built-in bookmark, and I LOVE how it turned out. It’s beginner friendly, a great scrap buster, and would make such a sweet handmade gift for teachers, readers, friends… or yourself (because we deserve cute things too 😉).

Also… yes, I used an old measuring tape as a bookmark because why not? 😂

Now I need to know…

I went to Missouri Star Quilt Company and apparently blacked out in the stores because I kept pulling things out of my bag like… “oh yeah, I bought that too.” 😂

But honestly, how could I not?!

Fabric, patterns, adorable notions, a Chuck sticker, scissors, and a few future tutorial projects came home with me. 🧵

The best part of the whole trip was getting to teach, meet so many wonderful sewists, and be surrounded by people who love this craft as much as I do.

Now I need your help…

What should I make first:
👜 a bag?
👗 a skirt?
🧵 a quilt?

Today we're opening some very special happy mail from my amazing sewing community!

I came home from traveling to find my PO box filled with the sweetest handmade gifts, thoughtful letters, sewing surprises, and one very special goldfinch-inspired package in memory of my grandma.

This video is a reminder that sewists and quilters truly understand the heart behind giving. Thank you for creating such a kind, encouraging sewing community... every note, card, and gift means more than you know.
