I have been a consignment-store shopper since I was a teen, and I have always enjoyed discovering unique clothing that has a history. Who was the person that wore this item? Where in the country or even the world was it purchased? Each article of clothing has a past and at best, a hopeful future. Statistics show the amount of clothing that eventually end up in our landfills today but doesn’t need
to. I would like to believe that I have done my part to eliminate some of this avoidable waste. In 2012, we (my husband and I) purchased an unoccupied 2-family house on the Main Street of Hillsdale that was in need of repair. To put it as many had viewed, it was an eyesore. Why not just knock it down and start anew? Never once, would we consider tearing down this home. We have begun the project of taking this rundown, circa 1845 home and incorporating advanced building standards, materials and techniques, in order to renovate this dwelling with hopes of claiming it a “net-zero” building, with solar panels to be installed before next winter.
