Indie Retailer Week of Central PA | March 31st-April 7th 2025 is in full swing! We appreciate all of your generous support this week as we celebrate our local, independently owned businesses in Blair and Centre Counties.

As a bookshop, we especially appreciate this! By visiting an indie like Next Chapter Bookshop instead of a big chain store, you’re putting money right back into the hands of the community. In fact, for every dollar spent at a small business in the U.S., about 67 cents stays in the local community versus 45 cents when spending at a big box store (according to American Express). This re-circulating of money within the community supports local jobs and entrepreneurs and we are forever grateful!

This week, we have some fabulous goodies like graduation gifts, Mother's Day, and Easter Basket stuffers! We have a big selection of marked down books too as we prep for all the summer new releases! We are open Thursday, Friday, Saturday from 10-7 and Sunday, 11-3.

This is a photo of our first day open, September 4, 2020. Since day one, our community has helped us grow by leaps and bounds, through all kinds of small business obstacles. We cannot be more grateful for your support over the past 5 years and your continued support.

A 2018 study commissioned by American Express found that an “average two-thirds of every dollar (67 cents) spent at small businesses in the U.S. stays in the local community.”

Small businesses not only contribute economic benefits to their community but also charitable and innovative ones as well. Research shows that 66% of small business owners donate to charity.

In 2025, Belle Mercantile has donated to the Bellefonte Middle School, Bellefonte High School Mini-Thon fundraiser for the Four Diamonds Fund, The Jana-Marie Foundation, The YMCA Silent Auction in the support of the Open Doors Program and the Anti-Hunger Program, The Bellefonte Rotary Club in sponsorship of the Bellefonte Children’s Fair to raise money for community playground equipment and upgrades.

I think we can all agree that local businesses make our community a better place. Let’s celebrate and support small businesses during Indie Retailer Week!
