Its purpose is to bring color, texture and pattern into people's lives through textile design. Jana Lam makes beach bags and clutches but it's just the tip of the iceberg!

When your Maui bday trip plans get “axed” by the 546th storm/hurricane, you go full Bunyan Blade and Timber Honolulu Axe Throwing 💪🏼🪓🪓🪓 and then bougie it up at the ever popular Merriman’s Honolulu ☺️ My only complaint was they showed us the trick throws with five mins left. I mean, let me throw the axe like a baseball and you’ll see some 🎯s Proof is in the pudding…or “bread is in the pudding” like someone on Survivor (I think) just said. Oh, and relatedly, did anyone see the bro who hacked off the whole top part of his thumb and barely winced? Dude chopped it and one of his tribe-mates held it in her hand like the end of a tiny Portuguese sausage. I might have evacuated the game just seeing that! 🤢 And then in the next episode this guy quit, pretending that he was afraid of getting an infection in a tiny little cut that the medic could barely see. So lame. Anyway, this is a very belated post but it’s still ♎️ season so 🤷🏻‍♀️
Thanks to these mommas for still helping me have a very special bday even though our island hop was foiled. Next up Napa! 🍷

I’ve started using Adobe Fresco to trace my artwork after I’ve drawn it in pencil. It might take away a bit of the hand drawn integrity but I’m enjoying it and trying to be more efficient. But I would encourage people to try picking up a pencil or pen more often. I think it’s just so more real. It’s slow and painstaking (well at least for me because I draw tight, not loose and sketchy), but I think there’s something about drawing on paper that makes you pay more attention to the shapes and spaces you create, and because of that the outcome may be more unique. Don’t get me wrong, there are so many great artists out there that use Procreate and other such tools that are wonderful and inventive and don’t have any issues with their creative identity, but I don’t know. I’m just real old-school I guess, and feel like the pen and pencil that I hold in my hand helps me with artistic accountability. I’m not like Kanye, and trying to make any comment about the merit of my work or how good it is- it’s basic, but let’s leave the Dior to Dior and make some real 💩 please?

Last year’s birthday was pretty quiet. I didn’t feel like celebrating; and the older I get, the less gifts matters and giving is more joyful but the swag from this year makes it evident how much brighter this one was.

I got about 5 real hugs from my son, and I loved it; that’s all I really want from my kids. But Aili is always next level. That egg has a back that makes it stand, It’s sunny side up decor 🍳☀️

And I was impressed by her paper mache, so she made me a box with all the necessary tools…the glue is hiding…

I feel so seen 🥲 if you haven’t tried these chips, they’re excellent…and hot chocolate with Baileys is the best.

Bacon and eggs with rice and salad from the OG Liliha Bakery is my favorite breakfast.

It cracks me up that they give sooooo much butter and syrup. You know I save them. The butter lasts weeks 😅

There’s something about crown flower- I think it’s my favorite lei…I massacred the ginger lei, but it kept my room smelling amazing 🤩

🎉99% Moon/Birthday celebration outfit🎉 I’ll admit I was a little skurred of the skort. I don’t know if I’ve worn one since 1993 😅 But because of TEN TOMORROW by Summer Shiigi I am no longer! In fact I feel like it’s time to re-harness the sneakily rebellious power of the skort. For goodness sakes, there was a time it wasn’t decent for women to wear shorts- which basically meant it wasn’t decent for women to play sports 🙄 The powerful skort changed that. It’s not just a cutesy portmanteau! (what a great vocab word), thank you, Tanya Basu, from the article in Atlas Obscura. It’s been around since the 1890s! But I get it, once it was ok for women to wear shorts why would we choose to wear a garment that seems to have an identity crisis? It kinda got sidelined from ever being super popular street fashion to kind of just a sports thing- I mean it’s still sooo tennis right? Yes, the reason it was created leaves a bitter taste in my mouth but after researching its legacy, and my own new experience with this historic, iconic garment I see it’s actually a symbol of freedom and power. One of the most powerful women in the world- who arguably is the greatest athlete- male or female (I’m torn between her and Simone Biles) in the world (My son keeps arguing LeBron James 🙄…um hello has LeBron won 23/39 NBA championships??) is a skort Queen. If you don’t know who she is, we share the same birthday (September 26) though she’s a year younger than me. And fittingly I wore this to celebrate, on the day before our day.
But ok, enough, the most important thing is that this skort is super cute and I’m fully team skort now. Thank you TEN TOMORROW by Summer Shiigi for your fashion forwardness. I’m forever changed. Grab one and you will be too. Please just don’t try to convince me to wear a Jort…my friends and I agree- that’s a whole different thing 😬

Cheers to 46 years full of all the best things…to being so full but still wanting to eat a bowl of corn chowder 😆 Tonight is a one of a kind, blustery full moon in Aries (on the best day of Libra season 😜) that requires focus and intention…set it on light, peace, amazing friendships and amazing adventures, and you can’t go wrong ❤️
