The Sloan Creative- Advocacy Art

The Sloan Creative- Advocacy Art This page was created to help raise awareness and support around disabilities and mental health. Welcome! Our family advocates and we advocate hard.

My name is Bri, I am a digital artist with a passion to make a change. My husband Nick is along side me helping me dive into this adventure. Nick and I have been married for 14 years, and we have 4 of the most amazing kids you will ever meet. We take every opportunity to educate our kids, and we have passion to make a difference in the world. Whether its mental health, disabilities, LGTBQIA+, or m

edical needs, we show up for all of it. Our goal is to educate the community and bring awareness to important topics in the form of digital art. We are ready to start hard conversations and end the stigma that surrounds all the above topics. Whether you are advocating for yourself or someone else, we are sure to have something that you will love. As my husband and I parent children that have higher needs, we find ourselves using the word advocate a lot. Whether its us advocating, or teaching them how to advocate for themselves and each other. The word ADVOCATE is an everyday vocabulary word at our house. I love that my kids never hesitate to advocate for each other, and that they are all learning the importance of being able to advocate for themselves. I hope our page will inspire you the way it inspires us.

Advocating for our kids who have communication challenges. Lets discuss an essential topic: empowering our children, especially those with communication challenges, to advocate for themselves. This journey is vital, and by setting the right example, we can help them become confident individuals. Here are three steps to guide you:

Model Advocacy:
Demonstrate how to advocate for needs by being vocal and assertive in various settings. Whether at school, the doctor's office, or during social interactions, let your child observe your effective communication strategies. Use clear and simple language they can understand, and show them how to ask for help when needed.

Encourage Open Communication:
Create a welcoming environment where your child feels safe to share their thoughts and feelings. Use visual aids, gestures, or communication devices if necessary. Emphasize that their feelings and opinions are valid. Practice active listening by giving them your full attention, and acknowledge their responses to help build their confidence.

Teach Problem-Solving Skills:
Help your child identify challenges and brainstorm potential solutions together. Use simple scenarios to encourage critical thinking about how they can address obstacles. Role-playing can be an engaging and effective way to practice these skills, allowing them to rehearse advocating for themselves in a comfortable setting.

Remember, these tips are things that I have found helpful for our family. It is not a one size fits all. At the end of the day, our role as parents is not only to advocate for our children but also to equip them with the skills needed to thrive independently. Letโ€™s work together to ensure our kids feel empowered to stand up for themselves and express their needs. ๐Ÿ’ชโค๏ธ

Hey everyone! I've been a bit MIA from my business page lately, juggling the whirlwind of life, kids, and a few personal challenges. But Iโ€™m thrilled to announce that Iโ€™m back and diving into my passion project on Instagram with full enthusiasm!

My Instagram page is all about raising awareness on disability and mental healthโ€” 2 things that are incredibly close to my heart. Iโ€™m eager to share stories, insights, and build a supportive community where everyone feels heard and valued. We are also in the process of designing new merch. Everything on our merch page will be gone and replaced with new items soon. So check that out as well if you want to grab anything before we rebrand.

Iโ€™d love for you to join me on this journey! Follow me on Instagram for inspiring content, helpful tips, and a peek into my daily life as I balance it all. Your support means the world to me, and I canโ€™t wait to reconnect with you all.

๐ŸŒŸ Understanding and empathy are key when interacting with individuals with autism. Here are some things you should never say to someone with autism:
1๏ธโƒฃ "You don't look like you have autism." Autism is a spectrum disorder, and individuals may present differently.
2๏ธโƒฃ "Just try harder to fit in." It's important to embrace neurodiversity and support individuals for who they are.
3๏ธโƒฃ "You don't act autistic." Everyone with autism is unique, and there is no one "right" way to express it.
4๏ธโƒฃ "You're overreacting." Sensory sensitivities can be overwhelming for individuals with autism, so it's crucial to validate their experiences.
5๏ธโƒฃ "You don't need help." Offering support and understanding can make a world of difference. Let's create a more inclusive and accepting world together! ๐Ÿ’™

Hey everyone, let's take a moment to talk about mental health. Did you know that one in four people will experience a mental health issue at some point in their lives? Despite this, there is still a lot of stigma surrounding mental health, and many people don't get the help they need.
That's why it's important that we advocate as a community to get mental health services for everyone. Mental health is just as important as physical health, and we need to make sure that everyone has access to the care they need. Whether it's through therapy, medication, or other forms of treatment, everyone deserves the chance to take care of their mental health.
So let's work together to break down the stigma surrounding mental health and fight for better access to mental health services. We all have a part to play in creating a world where mental health is taken just as seriously as physical health.

"Being a parent is tough, but being a parent of a child with disabilities requires an extra level of strength. To the parents who lose sleep worrying about their child's future, who fight tirelessly to get the support their child needs, who advocate fearlessly for their child's rights, we see you. We celebrate you. Your love and dedication are a gift to your child and to the world. Keep up the amazing work, and know that you are making a difference."
Remember, parenting a child with disabilities can be an incredibly rewarding but also challenging journey. You are not alone and that their efforts are appreciated.

Diversity is essential for a vibrant and inclusive community. Each person brings unique experiences, perspectives, and skills that can enrich our lives and broaden our understanding of the world around us. Whether it's in our workplaces, schools, or neighborhoods, diversity helps us create more innovative solutions, build stronger relationships, and foster a greater sense of empathy and understanding.
But diversity is not just a buzzword or a box to check off. It requires intentional effort and a commitment to creating spaces where everyone can feel welcomed, valued, and respected. This means actively seeking out and amplifying diverse voices, challenging our biases and assumptions, and being willing to learn from those who are different from us.
Let's celebrate the beauty of diversity and work together to create a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
