y tried hard to make us all fit into a certain mold, dictating what beauty should look like and pushing us to conform just to sell their products and make us feel like we belonged. It was tough growing up, especially when the media and societal norms were all controlled by those with antiquated traditional family values. For me, Kayvon, it wasn't until I stumbled upon some bold 80s music videos and saw singers embracing their unique styles that I realized fashion could be so much more. It could be a way to express yourself, to celebrate who you are, without being defined by your gender, size, or ethnicity. I still remember the first time I bravely wore my sister's skirt at the age of 5. It caused quite a stir in my family, but the happiness and freedom I felt were unforgettable. Even though my dad warned me not to wear it outside, I didn't fully understand why at the time. Growing up in Tehran, Iran, such expressions were uncommon, and it wasn't until later that I realized how lucky I was to have a family that was open-minded. Life took me down different paths. I went to college, got a job, and eventually got married. But even as life settled into a routine, I always felt a longing for something more. That's why I decided to immigrate to the USA to pursue my Ph.D. However, life had other plans, and a divorce changed everything. Suddenly, I found myself a single parent to my 8-year-old daughter, needing to put my dreams on hold to support her. Balancing work and parenthood left little time for personal exploration, but as my daughter grew older and became my confidante, I rediscovered my passion for bringing joy to others. Witnessing her resilience in the face of cultural challenges inspired me to confront my own. As my daughter navigated the challenges of adolescence, I became acutely aware of the pressures she faced from the fashion industry's narrow standards of beauty. At the same time, conversations with my best friend opened my eyes to the struggles of plus-size men in finding clothing that made them feel confident. Meanwhile, Roland's educational career took him on a different path. College, medical school, residency, and a private medical practice that he has owned for the last 20 years. Despite his professional journey, Roland always had a creative aspect, art, painting, sewing, and making various holiday arrangements. He has been sewing since he was 10 years old, designing and sewing clothes for his sister’s Barbies. Imagine his excitement when I asked if starting a clothing company was a possibility! YES!!! This endeavor has awakened Roland's creative brain, bringing a new sense of excitement and purpose. He can’t wait to see what we will create together. During these challenges, we found unwavering support from each other, helping with parenting responsibilities and standing by each other's side through thick and thin. Our mutual belief in each other's dreams fueled our determination to pursue our passion for fashion and create a space where everyone, regardless of size or shape, could feel seen and celebrated. So, we founded Top Vers Btm, a place where inclusivity isn't just a buzzword but the very foundation of everything we do. Our collections are curated to cater to diverse body types and styles, ensuring that every individual finds pieces that resonate with their identity.
