We dug up an old "Fall Vibes" DTF transfer that we printed about three years ago. It's so old that it's from back when our transfers were cold peel!
Remember waiting for those to cool all the way down before you could peel? Yeah, we don't miss it.
SO It's been sitting in our warehouse ever since. So we grabbed a navy tester tee and put it on the press.
The press:
Pre-press the shirt. Since the transfer had been in storage so long, I pre-pressed the tee first to get the moisture out of the fabric.
Press the transfer like normal.
Let it cool completely. It's a cold peel, so no ripping it off right away. It had to sit.
It peeled clean. The colors were bright, the details were crisp, and it stuck to the shirt like it was printed last week! A three-year-old transfer pressed exactly like a new one.
The secret? PROPER Storage
DTF transfers can last a long time, but only if you store them right. Ours held up because our warehouse is humidity controlled. It didn't spend three years baking in someone's garage.
Humidity is the big enemy! The powder adhesive on the back of a DTF transfer can soak up moisture from the air, and then it won't bond the way it should. (Houston humidity would love to get its hands on your transfers.)
How to store your DTF transfers:
Keep them somewhere cool, dry, and climate controlled. No garages, cars, sheds, or sunny windowsills.
Seal them up in a zip-top bag or plastic bin. A silica gel packet or two helps soak up extra moisture.
Store them flat.
Keep them out of direct sunlight.
Pre-press your garment before you apply an older transfer, to get rid of any moisture in the fabric.
Store them right and they'll last you. Maybe we'll pull another one out next year and see how it holds up at four. 👀
