Lessons I've learned from other moms - Episode 4💜

Maybe you had an immense amount of purpose before having a baby, maybe you always longed to be a mother, maybe you happened to become a mother without any effort – whatever brought you to this reality might have given you purpose or reinforced the purpose you already felt. For me, I feel an incredible amount of joy watching my kids grow. I also feel a need to use my time as a stay-at-home mom to make crafts, cook/bake, and continue to be a great wife/friend/sister, etc. Whatever passion you have as a mother gives you purpose and will also bring you happiness, ability, and peace.

The lesson: Follow your passion and do it willingly and happily. Be the best version of yourself. Don’t forget about your sanity and joy. Let your “yes” be your “yes” and your “no” be your “no”!

Toshinorigna: We just had our second kid and it’s amazing. The problem comes in when I don’t want to be stuck at home and tell my wife “hey Addy and I are gonna go to the park” and she just shoots that down. She says it’s too scary, I never know what can happen, but that’s the case when my wife is also with me. She says I have to show her that she can trust me. I will admit, my mother in law took some time off work to help us, and I am a little more relaxed about watching my daughter. If we’re at home, she’ll play with her toys and I’ll sit on the couch watching tv. I know that my MIL will feed her and/or bathe her. When we go out though, I don’t let myself get distracted for a second. No phone or just wandering around. I am behind her for every step that she takes. It hurts even more when she doesn’t even trust me to take her to my parents. Keep in mind that I will also be there, I’m not just dropping her off. My question is what can I do or say to her to be able to trust me? Or am I wrong for trying to take her out? Thank in advanced.

TLDR: wife doesn’t let me take my daughter anywhere because she fears something can happen to her because I will be careless.

Lessons I've learned from other moms - Episode 3💜

SLOW DOWN

I am the absolute worst at this. Like, THE WORST.

My husband and I both can be constant tornados whizzing through our days and sucking our children into the vortex.

We give them tasks to complete or activities to distract them from our mental absence, though we are physically present. We don’t just sit down on the couch with them to snuggle and enjoy a movie or a show, we take care of chores and work.

We’re teaching them that this is ok.

I had knee surgery in December, and I was forced to slow down, to sit, to snuggle. It was difficult for me to neglect certain activities that I was physically incapable of completing, but it opened me up for so much more attention to be paid to my kids.

Since recovering and having a bit more mobility, I have fallen back into some of my old habits, but I am cognizant of my shortcomings.

I’m working on this and will continue to shift my focus to what my priorities actually are.

Gorillazilla69: Parent of a 6m boy. Since potty training is something in my near future I’ve been doing lots of research and preparation and was interested to find there is a heavy amount of studies and research proving that men p*eing while sitting is significantly better for their health. Standing while urinating doesn’t allow your pelvic floor to relax and does not fully relieve the bladder. This can cause issues later in life. Plus it is way less hygienic as the back splash spreads bacteria all over the surrounding area.

I’ve seen so many men argue against teaching boys to p*e sitting because other children will make fun of them? Which call me crazy seems like a very stupid reason to not do something as opposed to medical and hygienic benefits. It just feels more like another aspect of toxic masculinity.

What do you think?

Lessons I've learned from other moms - Episode 2💜

Not Enjoying Every Minute Doesn’t Make You a Bad Mom

It’s okay to not enjoy every minute during motherhood because it is a challenging and demanding role. We may feel overwhelmed, exhausted, or frustrated at times, and that’s completely normal. The pressure to enjoy every moment of motherhood can create unrealistic expectations and guilt when we don’t meet them. It’s important to acknowledge that motherhood has its ups and downs, and that it’s okay to not enjoy every moment. We can find comfort in the fact that every mother has struggled and that it’s part of the journey. By giving ourselves permission to feel a range of emotions and accepting that it’s okay to not enjoy every minute, we can better appreciate the moments that do bring us joy and fulfillment. I highly suggest reading the book, Enjoy Every Minute: And Other Ridiculous Things We Say to Moms by Becky Baudouin.

I’m not exactly the mom I wanted to be.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I’m not the mom who makes sure everything I feed my kids is healthy and organic.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I’m not the mom who gets everything done on her to-do list.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I’m not the mom who feels confident in every decision I make. I’m wishy-washy on most days on mostly everything.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I’m not the mom who goes to bed early so I can wake up every morning refreshed. Instead, I find myself up late watching Netflix or worrying.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I’m not the put-together mom, who has all the answers, and the perfect outfit and hair to match.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I’m not the mom who stays calm over every bump and bruise, and sometimes I make the situation worse by my reaction.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
But I’m the mom who can tell something is wrong by just a glance.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I’m the mom who cried when I left my child at preschool, and they p*eled her from my legs.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I’m the mom that’s far from perfect.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
𝐁𝐮𝐭 no one knows and loves my kids better.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
And in their eyes, I’m everything,⁣⁣
⁣⁣
So, by just being me,⁣⁣
I’m the mom my kids need.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Because they don’t need an idea⁣⁣
they need a mom who is 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭 and 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮.⁣⁣

So maybe I’m the mom I’m supposed to be,⁣⁣
and that’s better than perfect.⁣⁣
