WORD FOCUS: IT’S YOUR INHERITANCE
TEXT: LUKE 15:29 “But he replied to his father, ‘Look, I have been slaving many years for you, and I have never disobeyed your orders, yet you never gave me a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends.....”
The blessing is an inheritance received only by faith. It is not given to you based on what you did or did not do, it supersedes your effort, labour or works. Interestingly, as an heir to the inheritance, the experiences of the elder brother of the prodigal son, contradicted this reality. His nature as an heir did not reflect in his experience. He lived like a slave, although he was entitled to everything his father owned. He assumed that he could earn by works what had been freely given to him. The elder brother of the prodigal son’s request for a ‘small goat’ was a clear reflection of his mindset; he was completely ignorant of the implication of being an heir. This affected his experience in his father’s house, he had a poverty mindset and was working to earn what was already his by inheritance. Unfortunately, this experience is widespread in the body of Christ. You cannot earn an inheritance; it is freely given.
Beloved, do you know your position as an heir of God is not a guarantee that you will enjoy the privileges and experiences of the inheritance encoded in the blessing? Paul tells us that as long as an heir is a child in his behaviour and thinking, he is not different from a slave although he is the owner of everything that belongs to his father. So, walking in the consciousness of the blessing is vital for enjoying your inheritance, rights and privileges in the blessing. Everything that belongs to your heavenly Father is yours already because of what Jesus has accomplished for you in His death, burial and resurrection. Be established in this fact; that is an aspect of the gospel message. Refuse to accept anything that makes you think otherwise; be it thoughts, feelings or arguments in your heart.
Prayer: I take authority over every enslaving thought in my heart programmed to encourage struggle in any area of my life. I walk in the consciousness of my inheritance as the blessed of the Lord.
