Imaging being almost done with a dress and having to put in an additional 24 hours of unexpected work to get it client ready 😳 Every prom season there is always at least ONE dress that ends up being extra complicated or taking countless hours longer than projected and THIS was that dress for 2025! After the last fitting, just a couple of weeks before prom and despite having seen and liked the dress in February, my client told her mom she basically HATED the dress and didn’t see herself wearing it 😩 The lining was chocolate and the lace on top was light instead of see thru, so it made the chocolate fabric look “ashy.” I have a strict no refund policy on custom work but I couldn’t stand the thought of my client’s mom having paid for her dress in full, and not getting the dress she envisioned. Prom is once in a lifetime and there was no way she’d be able to go to the store and find something similar. There was no time to remake the dress with a different fabric and it wasn’t possible to dye it, so we used dark brown permanent marker and COLORED it. Every bit of free space on the lace that wasn’t covered with a gold vine, was colored by hand with a permanent marker, which made the mesh see thru and allowed the chocolate fabric to be showcased as intended. Special thanks to my son for spending 11 hours helping me color before I finished up with an additional 13 hours. Some dress deadlines were pushed back, there were many sleepless nights, but everyone got their dress before prom and my client was happy! One thing I can say is that I go above and beyond for every single dress. It’s almost NEVER as simple as “cut, sew, finish” for any project, but each client’s prom is just as important to me as if it were my own child attending and I work until it’s done and done right!
