Real collaboration: The human element can’t replicate.
I was digging through my archives for a client project recently, and I stumbled upon a treasure trove of past editorial work. It reminded me that while technology shifts, the heart of our work doesn't.
What AI can’t replicate are the collaborations with photographers. It’s the energy on set, the shared problem-solving, and the serendipity of letting a shoot unfold.
I looked back at a few of these highlights—from capturing the rise of chef celebrities like Grant Achatz at Alinea to visually untangling complex environmental stories—and I’m reminded of why I do this. Whether it’s choosing a photographer for their specific subject expertise or their unique curiosity, that human-to-human connection is the difference between a generated image and a story that actually resonates.
In an era where budgets are tight and AI is everywhere, the craft of genuine image production is more valuable than ever. It’s not just about getting the shot; it’s about the soul behind it. Shot by Alex Martinez, Gregory Miller, Erin Patrice O'Brien, Jeff Sciortino, Anna Knott and others. See more edit work here https://heldfaststudio.com/editorial-design
