Vivi is the founder of Kin Café at Asia Society Texas, a community-centered café where tea, food, and hospitality are used as tools for connection, reflection, and cultural exchange. Looking sharp in an Enhance frame, Maryland native Ryan Grimes is the owner/operator of love y’all, mean it 🇵🇸, a soul food inspired pop-up kitchen based in Houston’s East End. He has recently partnered with Wonky Power on Navigation Blvd to host a screening of cult classic film “AFROPUNK” with an inperson presentation from its director James Spooner. The event is free, all ages and will feature free food by KIW and performances by Lagrimas and B L A C K I E ALL CAPS WITH SPACES. You can also find Ryan playing guitar in his new band, Derecho.

Emily Hynds is a writer and artist in Houston, TX. She coproduces the monthly storytelling event Grown-up Storytime and writes and produces her own plays, often in someone’s living room. Since June of 2020, Emily has covered Houston city council meetings via her project, Emily Takes Notes.

Emily’s new play, No Kiss, opens August 27 and runs for two weekends at Alabama Song in Third Ward.

Ursula Andreeff () is a neighbor and frequent denizen of Smith’s, often stopping in to say hi during her walks around the neighborhood.

Ursula is an artist, high school art teacher and founder of studio. Her studio creates projects such as bus stop art installations, pedestrian islands, and block parties. 

We wanted to photograph her with her favorite pair of glasses from before she moves to New York City this summer to study urban planning & urban placemaking .

Her goal is to create and manage public art projects that improve public spaces (parks, plazas, waterfronts) and multimodal transportation systems (sidewalks, bike lanes, buses, trains, train stations).

This is Cass. She is an artist, photographer, facilitator and darkroom manager at Flats.

Her work centers around holding space for images, for people, and for the fleeting moments that contain something sacred. She cares deeply about community and fostering the environments that allow it to grow.

She came into Smith’s looking for the perfect frame and a long overdue lens upgrade. Her words “ The first roll I developed with my new glasses had me gagging at the sharpness… why didn’t I do this sooner!! 😭”.
