Seeing this MOSCHINO “advertisement” when I was young and open, an artist AND a complete f**k-up, was terribly influential on my burgeoning art/fashion/culture/ideology mind formation.
What I didn’t know until many years later, was that Franco created the “ads” himself! It was important to him that they were his to create, and he protected that act of creation.

To me they WERE Moschino. I wasn’t dressing in a lot of Moschino in those days, but I didn’t need to be. He was communicating to me (and everyone else) a position, a stance, his own kind of anti-fashion proclamation and yes, even radical critique.
The ads ARE his work, and some of his best.

I’ve noticed more and more, over a number of years, but most frequently and passionately now, that those of us who love (and sometimes hate) “fashion,” but are in love with that thing about IT that I wouldn’t even begin to know how to name-they are looking at “fashion,” what it means to them and their place in its world-and are raising the alarm. They are starting or continuing to speak out more and more about what is beautiful and being lost and what is ugly and being stolen from us.
And some of them, us, have some ideas.

I hope this proliferation of voices can impact the future of a part of a world and community I live for. And remember…

08/26/2026

I wanted to create a carousel post of Dolly in all her specialness and beauty but it feels inappropriate at this moment to spectacularize her death-on this horrible little machine-on this all too often grotesque app.
Social all too often breeds alienation while Dolly in her utterly unique way created connection.
I will likely change my mind and create a carousel when it doesn’t feel vampiric and performative, but for now this is what you get.
When I was a little boy I was in LOVE with Dolly. Like I wanted to marry her. I would sit down a few minutes early for the Dolly! Show. I remember in particular “Love Is Like A Butterfly” and “Me And Little Andy” ( which if you haven’t seen, look for it on YouTube, where she’s surrounded by children as she sings the most gothic song in her catalogue)
Everyone teased me for being so obsessed with her, but for me me she was semi-divine. Not in a camp way, nor a funny one. She just spoke to me and made me FEEL.
The world right now is ill. It is suffering a sickness that I suspect will be prolonged and arduous. But even though she has passed, I think Dolly is part of the antidote.
If there is a god, bless her, and if there isn’t, let’s bless her all the same.
Goodnight Dolly! I’m so happy you are at peace.

Love,
7 year old me

PS-Oh to have had a chance to play dress up here at KASURI with her. She had her own rigorous style, but boy would she have looked brilliant in Vivienne, Yohji, and COMME des GARÇONS!

Vertumnus, the Roman god of the changing seasons, of gardens and orchards, of fruit trees and vegetation, of the harvest—and most importantly, of transformation itself. He had the ability to shapeshift at will, never bound by one form, or one self. Each August, Rome honored him for it. And this weekend, so do we with a very special sale.

Fashion has always been a form of shapeshifting, of change, growth and becoming. In that spirit we invite you into our own ever changing garden, KASURI. Come, explore, dress up, play, BECOME. And the longer you linger in the garden, the richer the reward.

Join us in-store Saturday, August 15 11AM-6PM and celebrate the end of the season with drinks, music, tattoos, and extra discounts on SS26 Sale purchases of $500 and up. The more you spend, the more you save!

Can’t make it in person? Shop KASURI online 24/7 at kasuri.com

Uri. Again. Becoming-as in if Uri’s face really was a Walter Van Beirendonck humorous/serious/beautiful, brilliant bag-it likely WOULD look something like this. He’s definitely a starry eyed kind of lad. But I’m babbling…Anyway, here is Uri in a small selection of Walter Van Beirendonck’s always brilliant, sculptural, referential and highly coveted beaded jewelry.

Come and see them for yourselves!

The KASURI SUMMER SALE starts now! So many incredible pieces from the likes of Yohji Yamamoto, COMME des GARÇONS, Walter Van Beirendonck, Henrik Vibskov, Issey Miyake, Anntian, Eckhaus Latta and more.

Everything starts at 30% off, though there are number of things with deeper reductions…

Watch this space as we will bringing a little bit of Vertumnus, the god depicted here by Arcimbaldo, to the proceedings. As his festival was celebrated in mid-August, we will be hosting something intimate and special then, in conjunction with the sale.

But for now come, explore, play and I guarantee you will fall in love with something, and at the very least encounter some of the special pieces, the kind we always bring to KASURI, that you are unlikely to find anywhere else.

Uri.
SS26 Walter Van Beirendonck
“Wink With Starry Eyes”
Uri isn’t just one of my closest friends and a brilliant tattoo artist whose studio PEMA Tattoo PEMA TATTOO lives inside KASURI. He’s also a brilliant dresser. I remember the first time he visited KASURI, so many years and iterations ago. I’ve had the pleasure to watch him fall in love with (anti-) fashion and the noble pursuit of dressing up.
KASURI seeks to empower and embolden people through sharing the work of some of the world’s most important, experimental, innovative and influential designers with our audience. And Uri embraced the game and hasn’t stopped since.
Of all the designers we carry I think I can say that Walter Van Beirendonck is his favorite. And it’s a joy to play dress up and shoot him in it.
Here is a selection of Walter’s SS26 collection “Wink With Starry Eyes”
As some of these pieces didn’t make it to our ecom site, DM me with any questions.
And there’s more to come, so watch this space.
