!The Astrological Reality of the Last Month
If the last month has felt unusually heavy, complicated, emotional, or just a little strange, there are several major astrological influences that we’ve been moving through.
First, Saturn turned retrograde around July 25. When Saturn stations and changes direction, its energy can feel especially strong for a week or two surrounding the shift. Saturn represents responsibility, restriction, delays, pressure, hard work, and the realities we can’t simply ignore. As July came to an end and August began, that Saturn pressure was very real. Things may have felt heavier than usual, situations became more challenging, and it may have been harder to relax, have fun, or feel like things were moving forward.
Then Venus entered Virgo, its sign of debilitation in Vedic astrology. Venus rules relationships, love, diplomacy, negotiation, money, spending, beauty, art, music, pleasure, and our ability to enjoy life. With Venus weakened in Virgo while also receiving the opposing gaze of Saturn, many of these areas may have felt strained.
For some people, this could have manifested as relationship difficulties, feeling emotionally disconnected or stuck, financial concerns, unexpected expenses, or simply feeling less satisfied with circumstances that would normally bring pleasure. Venus wants harmony, while Saturn demands that we confront reality. Together, especially with Venus debilitated, they can make it difficult to smooth things over.
At the same time, we entered eclipse season.
The period between the solar and lunar eclipses creates approximately two weeks of intensified energy. It can feel as though something is slightly “off.” Life continues, but situations can change quickly, emotions may be heightened, and things that have been developing beneath the surface can suddenly become more noticeable.
This eclipse occurred in the Leo/Magha area of the zodiac. Magha is an important nakshatra in Vedic astrology associated with ancestors, authority, status, leadership, royalty, and what is sometimes symbolically described as “the throne.” Because of this, eclipses involving Magha have traditionally been associated with changes or instability surrounding leaders, authority figures, and positions of power.
The Sun is naturally strong in Leo, but during an eclipse its light becomes obscured by the lunar nodes. Symbolically, this can temporarily weaken or disrupt the qualities represented by the Sun: leadership, confidence, vitality, authority, and clarity.
Adding another layer to all of this is Mars traveling through Gemini. Mars can make communication faster, sharper, and sometimes less tactful. People may speak before thinking, become impatient during conversations, or find themselves arguing over things that ordinarily could have been resolved more diplomatically.
When we combine Mars in Gemini with a debilitated Venus already struggling under Saturn’s influence, it isn’t surprising if relationships and communication haven’t been at their best. Misunderstandings can escalate more easily, and people may have less patience with one another.
So if the last several weeks have felt unusually difficult, strange, expensive, emotionally heavy, or filled with communication problems, there has been quite an astrological combination occurring at once: Saturn’s retrograde pressure, debilitated Venus opposing Saturn, eclipse season, and Mars energizing Gemini.
But the atmosphere is beginning to change.
Venus will move out of Virgo and enter Libra, its own sign. This is a major improvement in Venus’s condition. Libra allows Venus to express its natural qualities of balance, cooperation, diplomacy, beauty, pleasure, fairness, and relationship harmony much more comfortably.
Venus will also begin moving away from the difficult influence it has been experiencing from Saturn.
So, after a month that may have felt like one complication after another, the energy should begin to lighten.
Relationships may become easier to navigate. Conversations may become more diplomatic. Financial or spending matters may feel less pressured. Beauty, creativity, music, socializing, and simply enjoying life can begin to flow more naturally again.
If August has felt like a month where you just had to keep moving through one strange or difficult day after another, hold on. The astrology is changing, and next week may finally begin to feel like a shift in September.
