It’s a rare, midweek styling post! I’m really trying to push my styling creativity this year and this wet hair/outfit combo is no exception - is it giving “The Mask” or 80s/90s Miami vibes?! Who knows but I really kinda love it!

Top: A recent scrap buster! Vogue Sewing Pattern hacked into a crop top made with leftover stretch satin fabric in an abstract print.

Pants: My beloved pair of made in a bright green tencel twill from . I adjusted the original belt I designed to go with the pants by adding a matching buckle and added a grommet for stability.

I’m back again - this time with another double feature! This outfit was heavily inspired by one worn by Kirsten Dunst at a recent press event styled by over the past year (if I remembered correctly)!

Top: Butterick Vintage dress pattern in a Size 12. Vintage patterns always run a little small on me bc of my long torso/muscular shoulders so several adjustments had to be made to the pattern in order for it to work. If I made it again, I would add another inch or two in length and shorten the dart length for a rounder effect - it’s very 1950’s bullet bra-esque. That issue was particularly my fault as I moved the dart fullness several times, so you won’t encounter that if sewing the pattern yourself. I decided to add a scalloped hem as well which I’ve never done before so it was definitely a learning experience! Fabric used is a white cotton from my stash purchased from Hancock Fabrics several years ago.

Shorts: in the shorts option and zipper expansion, Size 6. I took these in in the waist quite a bit and decided on a hook and eye closure instead of a button to dress them up. Fabric used is Midweight Organic Cotton Twill in Black.

You can never go wrong with neutrals in the summer! Here are a few more of the items that I’ve whipped up in the last few weeks 🪡

Top: made in White Pristine Modal Jersey #317612 (is definitely more cream in person)

Pants: pants made in textured viscose linen fabric in the color natural. These are my third pair of pants made with the same type of fabric from Core Fabrics (but different colors) and I love them!! This is definitely a tried and true pattern/fabric combo for me!

Here’s a quick/as we run out the door picture of one of the newer pieces that I’ve made! I’ve been wanting to make a full, architectural-type blouse with some leftover pleated fabric for quite a while, and I had a bit of an epiphany last week as I was about to start on a completely separate project. I remembered that I had this pattern and, while it’s meant to be sewn with knit fabrics, realized that I could create an opening/closure on the side of the blouse pattern to accommodate the slightly stretchy pleated fabric. After some tweaks to the pattern, it turned out better than expected! I’m very happy with this spur of the moment make :)

Fabric: cream pleated satin with pearl buttons

Part Two is complete! Here are the final finished products from my latest make:

Top Layer: The 30s-Inspired Dress (heavily inspired by and ) was made by modifying the (since it was already made to be cut on the bias) to include a full back, flutter sleeves, and godets. I made the mistake of not including the godets in seams so they ended up being quite challenging to sew - next time around I’d alter the pattern to include them. Made with Flocked Polka Dotted Tulle in N**e with black velvet Ribbon.

Bottom Layer: The by was made with black jersey fabric. No alterations made besides shortening the dress by at least 20 inches. This base dress is SO comfy!!

This complete look may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I LOVE it!! I’ve been wanting to wear a dark, black lip out for forever and now I have the courage to do so!! So fun!!

We had a wonderful time at the listening to ‘s lecture last night! It was a dream come true to listen to him speak about the fashion industry and how he carved his own path. We also met some really lovely people at our table as well - it was just a perfect night!
