Journal Entry Tuesday September 1, 2026

The sound in the background is what I was watching on TV and is not relevant to the owl clock. I finished my owl clock. The only thing is I couldn't get the minute hand on securely. I thought that if I put on the second hand, it would secure the minute hand, but it didn't. Then I couldn't get the second hand back off to see if I could fix it. Everything else works, though. I think I am done with the deep cleaning for now. I may start again later in the week because I still need to clean out my closet. Today, though, I think I am just going to rest. I guess that is all for me today. Everyone have a wonderful Tuesday.

My birthday is Saturday. That's why I took this staycation. My dearly beloved Dan got me an owl clock that I have to assemble myself and an owl blanket. That sounds sarcastic but it's not. I love putting things together. Whenever we buy furniture that needs to be assembled, I happily put it together. A few years ago, I bought my oldest son a three-wheeled bike, and I put it together. It's actually the perfect gift for me, and when I'm gone, I'll either have an owl clock that ticks and tells the time, or I'll just have a cool-looking owl to add to my collection....

I read the pictured books recently back to back, and when I was done with Catcher in the Rye, I thought, that's the rich boy All the Pretty Horses. I read All the Pretty Horses first. It follows John Grady Cole and his friend Lacey Rawlins as they travel to Mexico and find work cutting horses at a ranch. They have some trouble and spend time in a Mexican prison. When they get out, Rawlins goes back to Texas, and John Grady stays in Mexico because he fell in love with a girl there, but in the end she does not go back with him to Texas....

I woke up in not-all-here mode. I was thinking of the song Interesting Drug by Morrissey when I first woke up, and thinking of the lyric 'An internet scheme designed to kill your dreams...' but I was thinking, 'That can't be right because that song came out before the internet.' So I reached for my phone to look up the lyrics. One of the dogs, sometime in the night, had crumpled up the rug beside my bed and, at the same time, knocked my phone off my dresser. My phone was buried in the rug....

I have one working day until my ten-day staycation. I still haven't decided what I am going to do, not really. I know what I want to do; I want to go to a few state parks and spend the day hiking. I don't think I will be able to do that, though. What I will probably do is clean out a few closets. We have gathered so much stuff since we moved in here that it's weighing me down. I already got rid of a few things. Mainly some appliances that I bought or was gifted and never used....

I now have one working day until my staycation. I still haven't made any solid plans. At this point I'm not going to, I'm just going to wing it, sleep in late and read books. My workplace has recently started shifting things over to a more 'modern,' system. I don't really know what they mean by that but one thing I do know is now instead of it being save to a single company only server, it is saved to another server with several other companies also. They call it the cloud....

I guess I should have rested yesterday. I was very tired. I didn't do my full workout. I took a nap in the afternoon then I was only up for a couple of hours before I went to bed again. I was beat. I have three working days until my ten day break. I still haven't made many plans. I have a mental list of things I want to do: Clean out my closet Clean out my oldest son's closet. I woke up too early. Today I want to write about why I started this blog. It was mainly to get my thoughts out of my head so I wouldn't dwell on them. I tend to overthink things. It worked for that, but I also wanted to write down all the things I think of that I think are funny, but I can't get into a normal conversation. I painted my nails yesterday. My left hand is fine, but something weird happened to my right. There where spots where the paint didn't stick to my nails and it started to peel off. The only thing I can think is there must have been something on my right hand that wasn't on my left. I'll touch them up after work today. I have started the countdown to my vacation. I have five working days left until I am off for ten days. I can't wait. I never used my PTO before, except for when I am sick....

I had a productive day yesterday. I did my workout in the morning and had a good breakfast. Then I went to the mall and got the security tag taken off my shirt. When I got to the counter and told the cashier what happened, I started coughing uncontrollably. The guy behind the counter was like, "I'm sorry. Here, let me take it off; you're free!"
