I found a spot for my little paintings! I didn’t think I could find an open inch in my workroom but voilà. I love spending time in there. I am surrounded by tons of fun finds not to mention Marc made that room for me. There is no denying it, he spoiled me rotten. I felt like I was living a home improvement show. Especially when I went away. I couldn’t wait to see his latest project when I got home. Now I get to be surrounded by what he created for us and I am so grateful.

Grief is like Flirting With Disaster Every Day. I was first introduced to Molly Hatchet’s song “Flirtin’ with Disaster” by Marc. It was the name of his boat in high school. Watching Marc pilot that boat was flirting with disaster. His hair was white blonde, he was tan from lifeguarding and he had a wrestler’s body. The way he use to look at me was like I was the only girl in the world. I looked at him the same way too. There was nobody like him before and there will never be anyone after. He took such good care of that boat. He would bring it to the sandbar and clean it inside and out. We had a lot of fun together on the lake, NJ and VA. We would blast rock and roll and fly over the water. I can’t bring myself to sit in his boat any more.

Grief turns your life upside down where your dreams feel real and your consciousness makes you confused about what’s real. It can be your best friend when you get lost in the pain. It can be your worst enemy when it jumps out at you when you least expect it. It’s like an unwanted guest who will never leave. I do want to spend the rest of my life trying to figure it out and make Marc proud of me and what he left behind.

I found two gems, one at the NJ flea market this weekend. They are actually the same size so they will look adorable together. Now I have to find a spot for them. I was attracted to the first one because it brought back great memories. When Marc and I were in high school, we used to skate on the frozen Rahway River that ran through Cranford. The first time I met him there, I brought him donuts from Judicke’s Bakery in Bayonne, NJ. That’s probably how I hooked him. Haha. These donuts were AMAZING. They had a layer of chocolate covered in brightly colored sprinkles. They were so good they were hard to share! My aunt used to live above the bakery. My cousins would break in through their ceiling and steal donuts. 🍩 Well worth the jail time. I was thinking about painting a donut in one of the skaters hand. I chickened out because I don’t want to ruin the painting.
That’s what so awesome about vintage. It sparks such amazing feelings of nostalgia. And now I want a Judicke’s donut.

It was a great trip up North! There is a ton of vintage farm tables, hutches, a coffee table, taxidermy, vintage Christmas, paintings and chandeliers heading to Virginia Found Goods.
My southern friends may need to cover their ears. I am about to proclaim something crazy. Everyone I came in contact with in New Jersey was……nice, really nice. I had doors held for me, allowed into traffic lines, and I was only flipped off once. Haha. I am thinking maybe Southern Charm is creeping upwards 🧐 Or maybe it’s this. Every day when Marc and I told each other about our day, he would ask me if people were nice to me. It was always important to him that people treated me nicely. It sure does make a big difference when people are kind. It made my picking trip that much better. ❤️

I received the HUGEST God wink today.
My daughter Blair came down to visit for our market this weekend. This morning, the two of us went to The Colonial for breakfast. They were slammed and there is very little space to wait. Blair and I were against the wall and there was a sweet couple around my age standing right across from us. The guy was handsome but didn’t look like Marc at all, yet looking at him made me think of Marc. When Blair and I were seated, I told Blair seeing the man made me really miss her Dad. I told her when we would come and it was crowded, I would sink into Marc with all my weight. It made me realize how much I missed his strong, sweet touch. I jokingly said to Blair that I wondered if the guy would mind if I gave him a hug. Blair said he might not but his wife probably would. 😂 About an hour after we left, we had just opened the store and I was standing behind the counter. I looked up and it was the man!! He pointed to my White Barn Vintage shirt and said thanks for wearing that shirt, we looked it up and wanted to stop on our way home to SC. Once I collected myself, I told him he was going to think I was a whack job but I had to tell him something. I came around the counter and told him and his wife about the conversation I had at The Colonial with Blair. His wife told me to give him a big hug and she would take our picture. Blair was driving back home to PA and I sent her the picture. She replied with WAIT!! Is that the guy from The Colonial this morning!!!??? I told her it was and he was at White Barn to deliver Marc’s hug to me. ❤️

Okay, here it is. The whopper of all whoppers in our lives.
I just finished watching an episode of The Good Wife.
I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a good binge watch. One of the lawyers was wrongly prosecuted. They found exculpatory evidence that was buried so the judge apologized to the lawyer for the wrongful prosecution. That’s not real life, I know and found out the hard way.
When I met Marc in high school, I knew he was the bad boy type. I didn’t care, I was in love. It turns out he really wasn’t a bad boy. He was a very good boy that went through a lot. A federal lawsuit was by far the hardest thing our family went through. You know the saying “don’t make a federal case out of it.”
It’s because a federal case is torture. I know because on Marc’s 40 birthday, he received a target letter from the feds. We did not know what to make of it but we would soon find out it was going to be a four year nightmare. Part of what makes the government impossible to fight is the fact they have all the cards and play dirty. They turn people against each other, have endless funds and resources. Their conviction rate is in the high 90 percent range. It was a long, very expensive fight. Marc was able to hang onto his job while under indictment. When I think about what they put him through, my heart breaks all over again. It was a terrible time for our family. After years of this legal battle, Marc and three other executives from the biotech company went to trial. The trial lasted three weeks. My children and I sat by his side throughout the whole thing. When the jury reached their verdict we filed into the court to find out all of our fate. NOT GUILTY. Do you know how hard it is to beat the government? Really hard and really innocent. It changed the lives of all four of us. The effects stayed long after the verdict was read. We lost an extraordinary amount of peace, money and time. And they never even said they were sorry. Losing Marc has been the biggest loss of my life. Fighting the government was the hardest time in our lives. Marc was a warrior to the end. ❤️
