MAKING OF THE P2:
Getting our first spiked shoe to market was a rigorous thought-exercise, to say the least. We wanted to let you in on our process.. The first thing you see when you get the shoes is a very special magnetic-closure box with a large custom graphic. We connected with Kamau formerly known as Poor Teffy a few years back. He’s been our favorite artist for as long as we could remember. We commissioned him to make a graphic that would serve as the primary design for our box & insole. He delivered with an insane “ransom” collage, far more 🔥 than we ever imagined.
Our initial renderings & samples featured an all-over “P” design instead of the “Boy Pluto” profile image you see now. We were also working with stock spikes. After receiving, we realized we couldn’t sell ourselves short and we had to get the best spike on the market, Softspikes , which is worn by over 80% of tour pros. To make a tour-ready shoe, we needed the best technology for spikes. Thank you to Chris | Golf Shoe Content for connecting us with the SoftSpikes team, who believed in the vision & allowed us to use their technology. We worked with SoftSpikes engineering team for months until we finally got it right. Our final product features 9 soft-spikes on each foot, which is very rare to see.
Initial drawings from our Head of Footwear, Preet Dhillon show he had the vision from day 1. A natural evolution of the P1 he originally designed, with better specs and stronger details. We wanted something that truly felt like a V2, and he delivered as always. Most slept-on shoe designer in the world 🌎
We utilized a TPU midsole to carve out the extra details and a rubber outsole for maximum traction. As mentioned previously, the insole really set things off.
The details on this shoe took so long to perfect. There were so many nuanced elements, materials, & layering techniques that at times felt like we were never going to get right. We produced 30+ samples before we got them perfect.
The smallest details, curves, and stacking can make such a huge difference. These are things you feel, but most don’t see. The devil is always in the details.
This midsole was the most frustrating thing to
