Dolly’s passing has had me thinking about something that feels worth acknowledging.
There have been so few negative things said about the life she lived. So much of what people have shared has been about her kindness, her generosity, her humor, her faith, and the way she treated people. In a world where it feels like everyone has something to say about everyone, I think there’s something really beautiful about that.
It also convicted me a little.
I am someone who can quietly carry the weight of life. I can worry about things that haven’t even happened yet, overthink things I cannot control, and let the heaviness of everyday life settle in more than I probably should.
But worry really does us no good.
And the Bible is pretty specific about that.
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.” Matthew 6:34
I think sometimes we spend so much time worrying about what’s next that we forget to really live what’s right in front of us.
Dolly’s life is a reminder to me to laugh more, love people well, be generous, enjoy the people God has given me, and stop carrying things He never asked me to carry.
At the end of it all, I hope people remember less about what I accomplished and more about how I made them feel.
That I loved well.
That I was kind.
That I showed up.
That I trusted God.
And that I didn’t waste too much of this beautiful life worrying about tomorrow. 🤍
