Hi everyone. Hell of a week, right? When things are tough I like to focus on what's needed for good sewing, because it's needed for life, too, and helps me stay grounded. In case it helps someone else, here are a few reflections.
1. Patience is key. I like that phrase, "Slow down, I'm in a hurry!" Some tasks just take time, and to do a good job (and stay sane) we have to honor that. If I rush I will cut a thread I didn't mean to, veer off track, or create a tangle. Breathe through it slowly and surely.
2. Regulate tension. There is a certain amount of tension inherent in a fabric, held between the small threads that make it up, keeping things together and creating strength, flexibility and resilience. When we work with it we need to observe that tension and match it. Too little and things unravel, too much and things get damaged or become vulnerable.
3. Focus. I've been kinda overwhelmed in the mornings this week, but coming into the shop and sitting down to a concrete task has helped tremendously. I can't fix everything, but I can do my best at one thing at a time and make it come out better than it was.
I'm so lucky to get to do things I enjoy. I've been reflecting on changes in Thread Lightly in the 2+ year (!) journey so far, and will update soon with clarified direction that is coming into focus. In the meantime, take care of yourselves and thank you for your continued support.
(Also, much as I would like to switch social media platforms I just don't have the bandwidth right now. I remain immensely grateful for your word of mouth referrals in the community, which is ultimately all we can depend on.)
