Due to a cancelation we were able to have our things delivered today over two weeks from now :)

We'll still plan on opening September 20th-

This move was big, complicated, and like all construction projects saw some minor delays in favor of 'doing things right.' I'm a big fan of Developers doing-it-right!

-And, I get to unpack what's been in storage for a year or more...

Last year, shutting down 3E happened in waves. At mold discovery two dumpsters were filled, during remediation another dumpster, post remediation- even more until November I had to come to terms and throw away about half our stock...

So right now! It feels like Christmas and my office, it's about the size of our last shop- I'm thrilled. The library is overwhelming to categorize, but I refuse to complain about good news!

Mail. The hidden problems, the things you don't think about are usually the day-to-day.

After closing 3E in Skaneateles, the space was marked Vacant. These past 9 months I would learn and experience that I wouldn't/could'nt be gauranteed that I'd recieve our mail.

When a space is recognized as Vacant USPS won't process the mail to be brought to your local post office for sorting and delivery. When a space is re-rented-

Because it's a new business name you can't get mail with your name forwarded to you.

Last week, our address in Ithaca was recognized. It took me nearly three weeks to put it through because I re-opened over opened, it was a lot. Not being able to forward your mail, well- it was another challenge that the 3E Debacle brought us.

Yesterday, I recieved our first package and was able to email the Bride- Your Dress is In!!! That's progress, the big kind over the little things- mail delivery, we can forget how much we take it for granted.

Getting and sending mail with a working address is huge. This afternoon I'll post mail again-confidently. I'll know it can be recognized, properly tracked without long hold-times or 800 and 888 numbers that don't have the option you need available to speak with a Representative.

I'll still continue to have issues with mail, it's a given. But, today and going forward, we at least have a working mailbox.

One of our MOBs last year said it, "They declared war with that Cease-and-Desist." I wouldn't come to understand how accurate her description was until it was time to vacate and try to navigate all of this with the courts and the stress it is when the courts rely on the United States Post Office.

Why share this? "Because us Ladies need to stick together, " is a phrase I've heard a lot of our MOBs make when giving me information that could help me because they've 'Been There' once before too.

Small Business isn't small when it's big enough to survive the little things, like undeliverable mail, because a Cease-and-Desist made the unwritten declaration that you're meant to collapse.

And! We were voted Best Bridal Shop without a shop!

Recently, our Brides coming in have been complimenting how 'great' I look and sound. I learned this past weekend that some of our Brides who said 'Yes to The Dress' with us last year were concerned, not that I was transitioning to a studio module, but because as quoted by a Mother-of-the-Bride: "That Woman is sick." The long and short: I'm learning the tremendous Grace and trust some of our Brides put not simply into Gee June, but me personally. A couple of our MOBs privately thought that I had cancer. That's the truth, they purchased with us and discussed options in case I wasn't around to see their dress through.

Last year I didn't pay attention to the excitement that these contests can be. Like navigating a maze in the dark I was trying to sift through what was truth and what was not at 3E Genesee. We-I, was too beaten down, surviving remediation, going to the ER, trying to figure out treatment, greeting the same Mold Assessor who had similiar findings back in '23 as what we found in '25- what are the odds? I'd hire the same Mold Assessor that had allegedly discovered a hazard three years earlier. I've requested the information, its been ignored.

Last year, I was getting little to no help from the Powers-That-Be, Code refused to show up, I was leaving voicemails for my landlords and their lawyers so they could hear me trying to tell them that I thought their POC was wrong for advising that I should continue working in the space. A year later- that person no longer works there. I'd find out from the newspapers.

To date, Nobody ever truly answered us. Village Code basically told me to 'sit down,' and then proceeded to overstate their authority and misrepresent their job description to justify not showing up.

For anybody who thinks this is 'too personal,' the learned reality that I've come to discover:

It's testament of a good business who can get through what we did, miss full blown bankruptcy by an inch, and get relocated and ALMOST OPEN within 9 months. That's the invisible award of being small business. We're still here and I'm getting ready to detox again. My body is ready to get rid of the Mold.

A friendly update:

We're in Ithaca full time now :) Alterations opened a few days ago-

We're setting up our offices and libaries now
It's exciting to unpack what's been in storage for a year :)

Our bridal suite will open 'Upon Request' in two weeks. We have been making accommodations for some Brides in need, that's fun too! We sold a bridal suit this past weekend for a Bride to wear next month!

Transparency; We're screening people carefully before accepting appointments. Our dress stock is low and will remain on the lower end through the end of the year. Right now off-the-rack pieces in natural fabrics such as Silk and Linens are not available. Those pieces were lost to 3E Genesee last year. Our natural fabric selection of dresses will be set after the Holidays.

Retail. Our fixtures get delivered September 11. We look to have the store Appointment Ready for all appointments by September 20 :)

Friday Nights for Doug's Fish Fry- Skaneateles proves it's as much about 'Truck Nation' and Harleys as everywhere else, just look at the parking lot: Big Trucks in every other spot.

The truth is, when we first opened at Covid it was the Linemen, the Plumbers, Truck Drivers, Electricians- i.e. The American Dad's who brought us our business during the shutdown.

Dads are like that, they know what their daughters need and can identify the work another Dad, like them-unknown to them, has helped his own accomplish- and always, in the subtle ways: Fixtures hung right, signage installed the best way, a silent assessment that when presented as a question- "Did you do this?" -And then, the nod-Appreciation, the quiet 'I knew it,' looking like a shake of the head at the response from Someone like me who says: "No, my Dad and my Brothers did," because they'd build their Daughter a 'Princess House Too,' or refer theirs to ours.

Our first few months open in Skaneateles, the sound I remember the most: Mother's-Wives, their laugh betraying surprise that their husband who 'never pay attention' to things like mine had insisted they try that 'New-Place-With-a-Funny-Name-That-Just-Opened-Days-Before-Covid.'

A 1980s boho-bride design for the free spirit. Big-box companies borrow trends from dresseses like these. Small Designer's like me, we modernize them or design capsule collections around them.

This weekend a capsule collection put aside in '19 comes back out. A Bride in September is reviving some ideas we left behind because-

Covid. We pivoted like everyone, survived it with Creativity at how to run appointments and fittings while social distancing. Technical Design during those years was more important than aesthetic design. Then-

What's in a name, Grace: Effortless Elegance. For Gee June, it's Effortless Elegance for June forward-->

The June Brides, are the eternal Brides. Grace-because.

This weekend and today we got the official word- Our bathrooms are done and fixtures hung! Some light finishing is happening now while we load up.

Our neighbors gave us permission to park our trailer next door while we pack up Skaneateles, we say Thank you. Very much, thank you.

Onward. Typically, I haven't been too 'personal' on our socials, but going forward, sometimes I will be. We have to be. We have so many good stories to tell from our Brides who stayed with us through last year. Some stories about our challenges, I'll share those too. We're also a niche bridal shop specializing in heirloom and heritage work. It's a challenge, sometimes it only guarantees that things aren't perfect because they were worn before and we lean into the past stories of the garment, embrace the flaws, make something new.

Our name. Grit is Grace and I'm not hiding or trying to bury what this last year has made us, me.

I'm different now. Our business is growing.

This time, we have a location off Rte. 13 and Hanshaw, Ithaca. 30k vehicles will pass by a day. 430+ parking spots, free. Good access points, delivery driveways, .8 miles from Cornell and Cayuga Hgts., 11 minutes to downtown, an avgerage tenancy of 16+ years, and best-

5 area schools to serve during prom season. Education is Community. I'll always be radical, to be so all it takes is the belief that School Lunches should be free. I believe school supplies should be free, our lottery system was once meant to prop that up 🤷‍♀️ so, we grab a pen, type a letter and we fight for that too. Ask the question: Why. Wait for answers, write again-

I'm no longer a passive-player in business. Churches, women, small businesses, and schools will get my donation. When I can't donate, I'll volunteer in the off season.

Shopping small is Community. Safe environments are communal. Supporting schools, that's business because it's a business expense.

And-Today, because our last post was a bit heavy-

We're further now, Chris our Property Manager (Remember I said good things are happening and we're moving) has the curtains fully hung, our bathrooms-

Yes! For the first time in over a decade we will have our own bathrooms 🚻 🚽 that are fully ADA compliant, should be finished *hopefully* today (if not, that's okay too) Plumbers are busy people with lots of 💩 emergencies to fix-

Anyways, this is our future, our present. Gee June will be double the size. For the first time since 2022 when the flood at 3 East got us, our complete fabric library, storage, showroom, and a 1000 sq/ft studio will be under one roof.

Our productivity can improve. Our closets to store client dresses and projects will be bigger than our previous sewing area. Our new sewing area will be the size of our last store at 3 E. More, I can work without having to move piles around-

My work.

The way I work is changing. I'll be cutting back significantly on alterations.

I need to design. I haven't put out a full collection since the flood at 3 E, Christmas of '22. We had spiraled hard for 3 years until the mold discovery of '25.

Designing is a big job-

More so now. Last year the first round of things to be discarded was our Pattern Library. 23 years worth of patterns thrown out, mold on paper goes in the trash. It was a hard day to watch the garbage truck pull off with that.

For me, personally: I need to design without the pressure of getting dresses up the aisle. I need to simply Make again. It's been a heavy year. I've had to spend most of it being my own Lawyer. I need to reacquaint myself with the joy of creating and let the creation meet the person.

Commissions are great. A Client coming to me with an idea is exhilarating, it's a challenge, but-

Especially the heirloom work: The second collection to be trashed last year was our Vintage Library.

A lot of my Commissions are heirloom work and without both our Pattern and Vintage Archives, to keep up with wedding season and it's momentum, I have to cut back on Commissions.

For 10 years I've taken on 100+ Commissions, a couple hundred wedding dresses a year. I'm Bootstrapped 👇

And-So, why did we do it. Why did we close without having a moving sale, an announcement, move out without having another location, etc...; Our FAQs shifted 8 months ago from our appointment schedule to mostly concerned questions from past brides-'are you okay,-I heard what happened'-to-sometimes apprehension from clients-'if what you're telling us is true how come Code/Agency isn't showing up?'

Admittedly, the apprehensive questions: I share in.

Some clarification before we reopen:

In April of last year our ceiling came in- Again. The same spot that needed repair in '21, cost us a lot of money in '22, and kept a wall constantly wet for three years- gave out. Came down on myself and a Bride in her wedding dress in our fitting room. Her alterations and hand delivery of her dress 5.5 hours away, was not enough.

May, we let it air out for a month. Water from pouring down rain would come in for two weeks. Memorial Day Weekend, it was time to go back to business as usual. But-

Brides came in wearing masks. Their bodies picked up the symptoms of Mold Sickness.

Another Bride asked her boss-a Lawyer some questions for me 'behind my back,' her Mom-asked me some questions and-

They may have saved my life.

Truly. I was sick. They made me understand that in a commercial space within a few days of the ceiling coming in that a mold test should've been done.

I requested a mold test from our landlords. Two days before the test I emailed: 'If we have a problem I believe it's Penicillium Aspergillus. My symptoms fit the description...' I thought I was helping.

Mold Test happens. Results, delays-

Results. Delivered with a lawyer cced saying I wasn't to tell anybody. High to Severe levels of Penicillium Aspergillus.

After a month of them failing to tell the other Tenants I stood in front of the Village Board, I said we needed help, Tenants were unaware-or-being told it was contained, it wasn't. I had just gotten out of the ER, I had needed an EKG-

My hands and foot had been numb for 3 days. Still were.

Then: Cease and Desist. After notifying the Village Board, I received a Cease and Desist for harassment, defamation, and disruption of the peace.
