For 127 years, James Shoe Hospital has been serving our community, preserving the art of repairing quality footwear instead of replacing it. Founded in 1899, this downtown institution has stood the test of time through generations of craftsmanship. In 2022, Scott Doney became only the third family to own the business, carrying forward a remarkable legacy while ensuring this historic craft continues to thrive in Jackson.
For most people, a shoe is just a shoe.
For theatre, it’s part of the performance.
Every entrance, every exit, every dance, every quick change, and every moment on stage depends on footwear that is safe, secure, and ready to withstand far more than everyday use. This production included everything from vintage and antique shoes to modern footwear that had to endure weeks of rehearsals and performances.
That’s where Scott and James Shoe Hospital came in.
With incredible craftsmanship and attention to detail, they repaired, reinforced, polished, and restored some of our performers’ shoes, making sure they looked great and—most importantly—helped keep our cast safe on stage. It’s one of those behind-the-scenes contributions that audiences rarely see, but it makes an enormous difference every single performance.
