Don’t drink the Kool-Aid when it comes to youth sports.

Because somewhere along the way… it stopped being just about the kids.

They’ll tell you:
“This is the best program.”
“These coaches are elite.”
“Your child needs this to get to the next level.”

And suddenly you’re in it
The fees.
The travel.
The politics.
The pressure.

And you start believing that if you’re not all in… your kid is somehow falling behind.

That’s the Kool-Aid.

Because here’s the truth nobody wants to say out loud:

Your kid doesn’t need the most expensive team.
They don’t need the flashiest uniforms.
They don’t need a coach who yells louder or promises more.

They need development.
They need confidence.
They need to actually love the sport.

And sometimes… the more “elite” it looks on the outside,
the more toxic it is behind the scenes.

The cliques.
The favoritism.
The pressure on kids who are still just… kids.

And parents start defending it
because they’ve invested too much to admit it doesn’t feel right.

That’s how it pulls you in.

But you’re allowed to step back and ask:
👉 Is my kid actually growing?
👉 Are they happy?
👉 Or are we just chasing a label?

Because not everything labeled “elite” is better.
And not every opportunity is worth the cost.

You don’t have to buy into the hype to raise a kid who works hard, improves, and loves the game.

Sometimes the best thing you can do as a parent…

is not drink the Kool-Aid.

As Windy Hill Creations comes to an end in Jackson Michigan it is a bittersweet weekend.

I leave with a lot of debt and a lot of prayers for my friends with businesses in Jackson!

On a lighter note we are so thankful for all of the wonderful customers that we have had in Jackson through the years and we look forward to seeing you again soon at our new location in Tecumseh!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
