Jackson Cleaners History

Vernon Mounter, grandfather of current owner John Trevaskis purchased Jackson Cleaners on July 4, 1936. Downstairs, which is currently the "pressing room" was merely a half basement and all the pressing was done in the backroom upstairs. Expansion to the downstairs was completed in the 1950's. Vern was an active community member, being the Red Cross Chairman for 10 years

in the 1950's and was the President of Jackson Lions Club in 1948-1949. He later was the President of the Jackson Rotary Club in 1961-1962. Vern is probably best known as being the 1st Amador County Probation Officer. While he held down the job of probation officer his lovely wife, Ruby took care of business at Jackson Cleaners. In 1959 Norman Trevaskis married their oldest daughter, Elaine, and after serving in the United States Air Force he began working for Vern and Ruby in 1962. Norm also became an active community member, joining the Jackson Lions Club in 1962. He is a Life member of Jackson Lions Club and also a past President. He is a Mason and a trustee at the Jackson Elks Lodge. Norman & Elaine purchased Jackson Cleaners from the Mounters in 1973 and continued to operate the family business until they sold it to their youngest son, John Trevaskis on December 1, 1999. In 2000, John started updating the business by installing a conveyor, a computer system, and a brand new 30hp boiler which needed a special building to house it. John has purchased all new presses over the years and has expanded the sewing room into what was formerly Gino's barber shop. John is also continuing to operate Jackson Cleaners as a family business. In the spring of 2002 John's wife, Tami came to work for her husband at the front counter position greeting the customers with a friendly smile. In January of 2014, a second computer and cash register was added to the front counters as well as a 24hr drop box put in place of the old barber shop door to better serve our customers needs. The fourth generation family member, Aaron graduated high school in June of 2014,and came to work for his father at Jackson Cleaners. Aaron presses shirts, helps with customer service as needed and also runs the Amador County Route, picking up and delivering orders to customers every Monday and Thursday.
