Charm your guests in this shimmery A-line bridal gown. 👰💕 A Friendly Reminder About Wedding Dress Alterations 💕👰

I don't often comment on other businesses, but I have recently had several brides contact me needing last-minute help with their alterations after experiencing delays, cancellations, or fit issues elsewhere.

This isn't meant to criticize anyone—things happen, staffing changes happen, and busy seasons affect everyone. ❤️

My biggest piece of advice to brides is:

✨ Do your homework when choosing who will alter your dress.

Great deals on wedding dresses are wonderful (take advantage of them!), but remember that alterations are a huge part of how your dress will ultimately look and feel on your wedding day.

Before committing to alterations, ask questions:

💕 Are alterations done in-house?
💕 Are seamstresses currently available?
💕 How many fittings are included?
💕 What happens if something needs adjusting?
💕 How far in advance should you schedule?

I've had the privilege of helping several brides recently who were stressed and running out of time. While I was happy to help, I always wish I had more time to make everything absolutely perfect.

💖 Your dress should make you feel beautiful and confident—not stressed.

So whether you choose a bridal boutique, a chain store, or an independent seamstress, just make sure you feel comfortable and confident in the person doing your alterations.

Because the dress is only half the story…

✨ The alterations are what make it YOUR dress. ✨

And please, don't wait until the last minute. Alterations take time, and every bride deserves to love her dress on her wedding day. ❤️

👰✨ Bridal & Formal Sizing: Brace Yourself… They’re Mean! 😄✨

One of the biggest things to keep in mind before you go bridal or formal shopping is the sizing.

And trust me…

💕 They are MEAN!

Bridal and formal sizes typically run smaller than regular street clothes. In fact, it's very common to wear one or two sizes larger in bridal than what you normally wear. If the dress is fitted through the hips, you may need to go up even more.

😳 Before you panic…

Remember: NO ONE sees the size but you, your consultant, and your seamstress!

💖 The goal is not to fit into the dress.

✨ The goal is for the DRESS to fit YOU! ✨

As a seamstress, one of the biggest pieces of advice I can give brides is:

💕 Order according to your current measurements.

Even if you plan on losing weight before the big day, it is much easier (and usually much cheaper) to take a dress in than it is to make one bigger.

Today's dresses are beautiful, but they often have:

• Illusion backs
• Fitted hips
• Corsets
• Lace appliqués
• Beading
• Little or no extra seam allowance

Making a dress larger can be difficult, expensive, and sometimes changes the original design of the gown.

So please don't order a size based on your "goal weight."

🎉 If you lose weight before the wedding—congratulations! That's the easy alteration.

💕 Don't be a "10-pound bride."

The size on the tag doesn't matter.

The smile on your face when you're wearing the perfect dress does. ❤️

✈️🏝️ Destination Wedding Brides: A Few Travel Tips! 👰💕

One thing you should consider when choosing your wedding dress is how you're going to get it to your destination!

💡 If you're flying, check your airline's regulations ahead of time. You don't want to fall in love with a giant ballgown only to discover it's difficult to travel with.

✨ My #1 piece of advice:

🚫 NEVER, EVER, EVER check your wedding dress with your luggage!

Lost luggage is stressful enough—but not during wedding week! Always keep your gown with you as a carry-on.

👗 You have several options:

✈️ Carefully fold your gown into a carry-on suitcase and place it in the overhead compartment.

✈️ Carry the garment bag separately.

✈️ If you're lucky, a kind flight attendant may allow you to hang it in the closet at the front of the plane. (Don't count on it, but it never hurts to ask!)

💖 Pro Tip:

As soon as you arrive at your gate, speak to the gate agents. Most airlines and crews will do everything they can to help, provided they have the space and accommodations available. Every airline is different, so it's worth calling ahead to ask about their policies.

🌴 Once you arrive, most resorts and hotels offer steaming services—or your local seamstress may offer steaming before you leave.

💕 Most importantly…

Enjoy your destination wedding and don't sweat the small stuff! The memories you make are far more important than perfect details.
