One of my favorite things about making custom clergy stoles is that no two commissions are ever the same.

Sometimes they’re deeply symbolic.
Sometimes they’re breathtakingly beautiful.
And sometimes they’re covered in… mermaid cats. 🧜‍♀️🐈

I also may or may not have designed a different stole last week that my husband strongly suggested should remain safely off the internet for the sake of my other jobs. 😂

The point is: if you have an idea that makes you smile, laugh, or tells your story, I love bringing it to life in fabric. Your stole doesn’t have to look like everyone else’s— it can reflect your ministry, your personality, and the communities you serve.

🌸 My $2 Favorite 🌸

People often assume the best stoles come from expensive fabrics.

This one came from Goodwill.
More specifically, it came from a table runner.
A $2 table runner.

I was wandering through when I spotted the delicate embroidered flowers and textured ivory fabric and thought, "I wonder..."

When I got home, I carefully took it apart and transformed it into this stole.

Years later, it's still one of my favorites.

Maybe it's because of the simplicity. Maybe it's because the embroidered vine seems to wander naturally across the stole. Or maybe it's because it reminds me that beautiful things don't have to start with expensive materials.

Sometimes creativity is just looking at an ordinary object and seeing what it could become.

One of the joys of making stoles is finding unexpected treasures in unexpected places.

And sometimes those treasures cost $2.

🐉 Confession Time: This Stole Was a Gamble 🐉

Not every stole starts with a grand theological vision.

Sometimes I see a fabric and think, "This is completely ridiculous. I absolutely need it."

That's exactly what happened with this dragon fabric.

There was no customer. No custom order. Just me strolling and thinking, "Surely no one wants a clergy stole covered in rainbow watercolor dragons..."

So I bought it anyway.
And then I made a stole.
And then someone bought it.
And then another person asked if I could make one.

And somehow this has become one of my most popular designs.

I've learned that there are a lot of clergy out there who love fantasy novels, tabletop games, dragons, and a little bit of whimsy in their worship life. Honestly, I should have known.

One of my favorite things about making stoles is discovering that the thing I think is "too weird" is often exactly what someone else has been looking for.

So here's to taking chances on ridiculous ideas.

🌌 How This Business Started 🌌

A few years ago, I made a stole for myself.

Just one.

Then another pastor saw it and asked, "Could you make me a q***r Advent stole?"

I started thinking about Advent. Waiting. Wonder. Hope. Holy mystery. And I couldn't think of anything more q***r than... the universe. ✨😉

Expansive. Beautiful. Infinite. Full of possibilities we haven't even imagined yet.

So I created this stole— a cosmic Advent design filled with stars, deep blues, and swirls that speak to the mystery of God's unfolding story.

What I didn't know at the time was that this one custom request would become the beginning of an entire business. One stole led to another, then another, and now I've had the joy of creating stoles for clergy across denominations, traditions, identities, and causes.

Every stole I make starts with a question:
"What story are you trying to tell?"

Sometimes the answer is a liturgical season.
Sometimes it's a ministry.
Sometimes it's a movement.
And sometimes it's the vast, beautiful, q***r mystery of the cosmos itself.

I'm grateful to every pastor who trusted me with their vision— and especially to the one who asked for a q***r Advent stole and accidentally launched a business.

🧡 Custom Stole Spotlight 🧡

One of my favorite parts of this work is helping clergy bring their passions, ministries, and advocacy into the pulpit.

This custom stole was created for a pastor participating in efforts to end gun violence. The flowing orange design reflects the color that has become a symbol of gun violence prevention and honors all those working for safer communities.
