Meet the Director of VICTOR VICTORIA
Opening July 10 - 26 at arts collective theatre

Lee Hamby is a Jacksonville-based theatre producer, director, designer, and entrepreneur with a passion for building community through creativity. As a Founder and the Managing Artistic Director of Arts Collective Theatre, Lee is dedicated to creating inclusive, accessible, and artist-driven opportunities that bring people together through the power of live performance. Under his leadership, Arts Collective Theatre is establishing a new home for theatrical, artistic, and social experiences in Northeast Florida with the belief that theatre should be as much about connection and community as it is about entertainment.

In addition to his work in the performing arts, Lee is the owner and curator of Wreaths & Relics, a boutique vintage and home décor venture specializing in carefully sourced furnishings, unique finds, and handcrafted designs. His eye for storytelling extends beyond the stage and into the spaces people call home, blending history, artistry, and style into every piece he curates.

With decades of experience as a performer, director, producer, designer, and arts advocate, Lee has devoted his career to creating opportunities for others to shine. Whether developing new theatrical initiatives, producing innovative productions, or curating vintage treasures, his work is guided by a belief that meaningful experiences have the power to inspire, connect, and strengthen communities.

Lee lives in Jacksonville, Florida, where he continues to champion the arts, support local artists, and create spaces where creativity and community thrive.

In honor of Juneteenth, we’re proud to highlight our collection of paintings by the legendary Florida Highwaymen.

In the 1950s and 1960s, a group of 26 African American artists from Fort Pierce faced the reality of Jim Crow segregation. Most galleries and art dealers would not represent Black artists, so they created their own path. Rather than waiting for a seat at the table, they loaded their paintings into the trunks of their cars and sold them directly to businesses and homeowners throughout Florida.

Traveling the Atlantic coast along U.S. 1 and A1A, they carried vivid paintings of Florida’s natural beauty—swaying palms, blazing sunsets, moonlit rivers, and stormy skies. Their artwork brought Florida landscapes into offices, motels, banks, and homes at a time when many doors were closed to them.

What began as a way to survive became one of the most important art movements in Florida history. Today, the Highwaymen are celebrated not only for their talent, but for their determination, entrepreneurship, and refusal to let discrimination define their future.

As a North Florida business, we love the thought that these artists traveled the same Florida highways that connect communities like ours today. Their story is one of resilience, creativity, and the freedom to build opportunity where none existed.

Stop by Our Third Place — Neighborhood Market to view our collection of Highwaymen and Highwaymen inspired artwork and help us celebrate a remarkable chapter of Florida’s Black history.
