🧡 So many conversations about birth end up boiling down to one thing, fear. Most of us have grown up in an environment where we have been conditioned to believe that birth is chaotic, dramatic, and painful. Television, movies, and the well meaning stories of mothers we have spent time with are the pictures we develop in our minds- thus becoming our reality. Let's be real, juicy stories are much more entertaining and accepted than the mother that wants to share how beautiful and wonderful her birth was or the instinctive, peaceful, and intervention free birth she plans to have. She's usually coined as the woman who is naive and doesn't know what is about to hit her or is somehow judged because she feels differently than the other mothers. As if her choices somehow reflect badly on their personal choices. The majority is right about one thing, she may not know what is about to hit her in the land of interventions and how these interventions are the cause for most complications, pain, and fear in birth. Special circumstances are real and for that we are so grateful for hospitals and the doctors and midwives that literally save lives. The truth though, is that MOST births are special circumstance free and women can have babies peacefully with little or no discomfort. Our bodies were designed to have babies. Because of unnecessary interventions and our environment, we have been conditioned to believe that peaceful, easier birth is a delusion, for those trying to prove something and that home birth is unsafe. Let's release the fear and support each other as women in whatever capacity we decide as individuals to birth our babies. The experience of childbirth is something that stays with a woman forever and affects her for the rest of her life. Let her release the fear and get back to basics.
