I want to share something I learned today, so it might save someone an hour of their life in the future.

This is a baby Gopher Tortoise a LAND based reptile. They are protected under State and Federal Laws and I know you should NOT touch them. However, I came across this doughnut sized little nugget tumbling in the surf and "saved" it. We called the ranger station at Fort Clinch to see what we needed to do and was told they actually go in to the water to get rid of parasites but if it was in danger better to save a life and put it in the dunes to let it rest. Well, for the next hour this thing tried its best to give me a nervous breakdown charging waves, tumbling, rolling and turning upside down to only get pounded again by waves. It was later discovered he was just living his best life and didn't give a crap about my feelings!! Bottom line is, this is normal 😆 The more you know! Ughhhhh

Amazing Creatures! 😍

Great hammerhead sharks are specialised hunters of rays, using electroreception to find this prey buried in the sand, and have been observed using their mallet-shaped head to pin down and immobilise rays. Their hammers have specialised sensory organs, the ampullae of Lorenzini, which allow sharks to detect the electrical fields created by prey.
