I am the descendent of one of the last homesteads established by free slaves west of the Mississippi Nicodemus, Kansas. This is their 145th homecoming family reunion this summer, and I have made an art quilt to pay homage to my ancestors that made the journey from Lexington Kentucky to Nicodemus, Kansas. I’ve included in my quilt, a replica of the poster recruiting people to go to Kansas for $5 which was a lot of money at the time,the first church, the first school, which is where my grandfather attended and Kansas state flower along with the Buffalo soldier which participates in the annual parade during homecoming.

When I was in Las Vegas for my aunts birthday party, I met this wonderful woman that we really connected with, and she ordered a clutch purse.
