One of the most common fears we hear: "If I wash it, will I ruin the electronics?"

Let's clear the air. A dirty jacket is actually a colder jacket. Dirt, oil, and sweat clog the microscopic pores of your fabric, reducing its breathability and flattening the insulation loft. When insulation is flattened, it loses those precious air pockets that trap heat.

Modern heated apparel, like the ones at The Outent, are built with sealed heating elements designed to withstand water. The carbon fiber heating wires are typically wrapped in a waterproof coating.

The Golden Rule for Washing:
1. Remove the Battery: This is the only part that hates water.
2. Zip It Up: Close all zippers to prevent snagging.
3. Gentle Cycle: Use a mesh bag if possible, and wash with cold water.
4. Hang Dry: High heat from dryers can damage the wiring insulation or the fabric's DWR coating.
