So the City is starting a new program to recruit people that are looking to be a Police Officer. They started up the Police Cadet program.But call it Police services Officer now. I heard the pay starts at $5,000 a month. But in this day and age who would want to do that job. This program is targeted to get the 18-21 year olds. The Dept. is already short over 300 Officers.
Officers are now starting to retire after putting in 25 to 26 years of service. While before the Officers used to do 27 to 32 years and get there pension. The City saw fit to FORCE the Officers to work 30 YEARS now instead of the 25 years. Which they changed in 2011. Now working as a Police Officer if you are forced to work the 30 years before you can retire. It takes a toll.
Also they cut out the High 3 and made it a High 5 with out OT not factored in. Which is usually your last 5 years working for the city. So what that does is forces the officers to get promoted faster and stay there until they retire in 30 years.
With that you have people with college degrees getting promoted after just serving 3 years due to they are eligible to take a test after 3 years due to there College education. Having a College education has nothing to do with Common Sense and work experience
I have seen first hand how some of the command that are ranking Officers had little road time and hardly any common sense make decisions I guess based on what they have read in a book. Had they spent some time on the road and see how the REAL WORLD works. They would not make some of the decisions they make
Overall you will see more Officers that got into the Police Department retiring after working 25 to 26 years . Soon you have a shortage of 500 Officers in a few more years. I hope the City is ready for the fall out
