It’s Earth Day! 🌎♻️

Here’s some facts about the impact of fast fashion + why secondhand matters:

– the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of global carbon emissions (more than all international flights and shipping combined)

– it takes 2,700 liters of water to make one t-shirt—enough drinking water for one person for almost 3 years

– every second, a garbage truck full of clothes is either burned or dumped in a landfill

– if everyone bought just one used item instead of new this year, we’d save 6 billion pounds of CO₂ (same as taking 500k+ cars off the road)

Buying secondhand might feel small, but on a global scale, it makes a huge difference. overconsumption is wild! Wear what already exists.

Vintage Marlboro Cigarette Ads 🚬

The Marlboro Man was more than just a cowboy—he was the face of one of the most successful ad campaigns ever. Created in the 1950s by ad agency Leo Burnett, the rugged cowboy rebranded Marlboro from a filtered cigarette for women into a symbol of masculinity, freedom, and rebellion. By the ‘60s, the Marlboro Man had taken over billboards, magazines, and TV screens, helping Marlboro become the top-selling cigarette in the world.

But the campaign wasn’t without controversy. Critics said it glamorized smoking and linked it to a cool, independent lifestyle—especially for young men. And as some of the Marlboro Men later died from smoking-related illnesses, it raised even more questions about the cost of such powerful advertising.

Marlboro didn’t stop there though. With “Marlboro Miles,” people could collect points from cigarette packs and trade them in for jackets, duffle bags, and other branded gear. That rugged western aesthetic ended up shaping streetwear, workwear, and even vintage fashion culture today. It even inspired an ad campaign by .vintage.thrifts ♻️
