Quill, Country Joe McDonald, Santana (pictured), John Sebastian, Keef Hartley Band, The Incredible Strong Band, Canned Heat, Mountain, Grateful Dead, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin (pictured) and the Kozmic Blues Band, Sly and the Family Stone, The Who, and Jefferson Airplane.
To continue our , we recommend the 1970 documentary 'Woodstock'. This $600,000 budget film would collect $50 million from the box office and is credited to have saved Warner Brothers from going out of business.

Today in 1969, began a 3-day festival on a Dairy Farm in Bethel, NY. Woodstock, An Aquarian Exposition, would in turn put the farm on the National Register of Historic Places. 9 acts would perform the first night; Richie Havens (pictured), Sri Swami Satchidananda, Sweetwater, Bert Sommer, Tim Hardin, Ravi Shankar, Melanie, Arlo Gutherie, and Joan Baez (pictured). However due to poor weather and technical issues, Joan, who was six months pregnant at the time, would not go on to perform until almost 1 a.m.

Today, in 2010, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World premiered. Based on the graphic novel 'Scott Pilgrim'; Scott (Michael Cera) must defeat all 7 evil exes of Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). While simultaneously trying to propel his band, Sex-Bob-Omb, into the music scene.

American Graffiti (Dir. George Lucas) premiered in the U.S. today in 1973. This coming of age film, featuring Harrison Ford and Ron Howard, is a study of the cruising and early rock 'n' roll cultures among teens in the 60's.
The Library of Congress deemed the film "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."

On March 1, 1969 The Doors would perform their most discussed and controversial concerts in Miami, FL. Morrison had allegedly exposed himself to the crowd, and today, August 10, 1970 he would face a long trial on charges of 'Lewd and Lascivious behavior' in State of Florida v. James Douglas Morrison. After 40 days Morrison was convicted of two misdemeanor counts of open profanity and indecent exposure. Unfortunately, Morrison would die in Paris on July 3, 1971 while waiting on the appeal.

For this we're wishing a very Happy Birthday to Gillian Anderson. Born this day in 1968, Anderson would get her first major film break in The Turning (1992). The following year she would begin the role of Dana Scully in the X-Files, which would foster what was called the 'Scully Effect' wherein young women were inspired to pursue careers in the STEM field.

Today is the day America's bombshell was devastatingly found dead in her Brentwood home. Marilyn Monroe, born Norma Jean, created a lasting legacy in her short 36 years of life. Due to her notoriety many would go on to speculate that Monroe had in fact been murdered, and not committed su***de as determined by the LA County Medical Examiner. In 1982 the LA County Defense Attorneys Office opened a 'threshold investigation', but, were unable to find any evidence of foul play.
