There are a few spaces I’ll never forget. The murals at the Von Noy Mansion certainly fall into that category.

I was lucky enough to experience them in person during an estate sale several years ago. They reminded me that what I love most isn’t actually collecting beautiful things. It’s the creation of home. The layering of architecture, art, furniture, and objects until a space begins to develop its own personality.

As I work on a few client projects, I find these murals making their way back into my mind. Perhaps it’s time for a mural moment.

A room is so much more than the furniture and decor that fills it.

It’s the light that pools across the table in the evening. The worn patterns in a rug. The soft creases in linen. Fresh branches gathered from the yard. A favorite book left open. The scent that lingers long after someone has gone home.

These are the details that ask us to slow down. Atmosphere isn’t created by one beautiful object. It’s built layer by layer, until a house begins to feel deeply lived in.

Sunday Edition | Aromatherapy candles have become one of my favorite finishing touches. I’ve shared this view before, but I still love it.

The layers get me every time. The pocket doors, the fireplace, the 17th-century refectory table, and the way the doorway frames the room beyond.

Some pieces wait years for the right moment.

I have been quietly collecting vintage textiles for years, always hoping to find the perfect upholstery project. One such textile was this vintage blanket fabric. I’ve been waiting for the right set of chairs to pair it with, and this month I finally found them.

I was initially drawn to the scale, craftsmanship, and beautifully simple lines of the chairs themselves. What I didn’t realize was how difficult they would be to identify. After quite a bit of research, I was able to trace them back to Lambrecht Studio, a small-batch maker whose work is remarkably scarce today. In fact, I was only able to locate a single comparable example online.

The combination of warm teak, sculptural ladderback frames, and the vintage textile felt as though it was always meant to exist.

One of the things I love most about collecting and designing is that not everything needs to happen immediately. Sometimes the right objects find each other years apart. Sometimes an idea needs time to mature. Sometimes the best decision is simply waiting until something feels undeniably right.

These chairs found their home this week, and I couldn’t be happier for the people taking them home. It feels like the final chapter in a story that started years ago with a folded piece of fabric sitting patiently on a shelf.

That’s the magic of slow design ✨
