Rule, Britannia! isn't a tune I'd play in every setting, as its historical and political associations can mean different things to different people. But when those concerns aren't at the forefront, it's simply a wonderful melody. Strong, familiar, and perfectly suited to the bagpipes, it's a tune I've always felt deserves appreciation for its musical qualities alone.

One of my favorite things is finding tunes that people don't expect to hear on the bagpipes. The Wild Rover is one of them. It's a tune most pipers overlook, but the melody adapts remarkably well and creates a rich, distinctive sound on the pipes. Sometimes the best pipe tunes are the ones nobody thinks to try.

Why don't more pipers play Molly Malone?

It's one of the most recognizable Irish songs in the world, and it works exceptionally well on the bagpipes. The melody is strong, memorable, and full of character.

Whether you're playing for St. Patrick's Day celebrations or Irish funerals, this tune connects with listeners immediately. I'm hoping more pipers will pick it up, because Molly Malone deserves a place in the modern piping repertoire.
