Flashback Friday! Here’s a picture found by request.

This picture I believe was taken in the 1950s and shows the old grocery store that used to be at the corner of 3rd Ave. and 1st Street.

As of yesterday you’re able to still see part of the old striped awning above the store front windows.

Fun fact: the garbage can lid pictured is rumored to have followed many fire departments members home.

This months firefighter highlight

Jason Dawson, Firefighter / EMR

Jason joined the Keewatin Fire Department on December 2nd 2022. He joined the fire department to better the community he lives in and to better himself. He says he likes the idea of leadership and the structure the fire department brings along with the bonding amongst fellow firefighters! Jason stated
by joining the fire department I’ve learned skills to be a better person for my family and my community.

Hibbing, Chisholm, Keewatin, and Virginia firefighters were dispatched Saturday night to a house fire in Hibbing. The fire was reported around 10:00 p.m. in the 4200 block of 1st Avenue. A Hibbing Fire Department official told The Northland Fire Wire that upon arrival all occupants including six children had safely evacuated the house. Firefighters quickly contained the fire to an upstairs bedroom. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Hibbing Fire Marshal's Office. The Hibbing Police Department assisted at the scene. The Northland Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the family.
